Here are some photos from the January 8, 2005 tribute to longtime airborne traffic reporter Walt Starling, who died of colon cancer on January 4, 2005. It was held at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University Of Maryland campus in College Park. A WRC-TV news package, that Walt was so proud to do, popped up larger than life on a giant screen above the stage.....

Retired WMAL traffic reporter Dan Rosenson paid tribute to Walt, along with countless others, including former Joy Boy Ed Walker.....


There were stage performances by a jazz combo and the Children Of Shalom.....

Non speaker in attendence: Dave Arlington, formerly of WLTT; Dave Adler, formerly of WLTT and now at WARX; Beverly Fox, formerly of WLTT; Lou Katz, WASH; Al Santos, WJZW; Jim Bohannan, Westwood One; Jim Russ, Metro Traffic; Morris Jones, Sinclair; Bob Marbourg, WTOP. Hundreds of non media were in attendence. The program was orginally timed for 2 hours, but turned into more than 3 and a half hours. Randall Bloomquist: Sharing the worst kept secret that Walter always did his first report of the afternoon while taxi-ing down the runway. Commenting on the drummer in the band: "I haven't seen leather pants on a drummer since they fished Keith Moon out of a pool.
