Paul Bicknell guests on "Magical History Tour" October 20, 2006.....

DC and Baltimore radio great Paul Bicknell guested in-studio with Rusty Gibson on his "Magical History Tour" show on Fairfax Public Access's WEBR radio - via cable TV and the internet - on Friday, 10/20/06. With DCRTV webmaster Dave Hughes. Shortly after getting his career started at radio stations in his native Massachusetts, Bicknell was heard on Boston blowtorch WBZ (1030 AM), a "top 40" outlet in the early 1960s. Heading south, as "Davy Jones," Bicknell played the platters in the late 1960s and early 1970s at then "top 40" WPGC (AM 1580 and FM 95.5). He also worked at then WMAL-FM (107.3), back when it had a "soft rock" format, at WNAV in Annapolis (1430 AM), and at oldies outlets WBIG (100.3 FM) and WXTR, the old XTRA 104, (104.1 FM). Bicknell made publicity ripples when he quit on the air at WBIG and immediately took a limo ride to his new gig at XTRA 104. Bicknell also worked at Baltimore talker WBAL (1090 AM) in the 1980s, honing a humor-based talk show. A fiercely independent and outspoken man, Bicknell is a harsh critic of today's over-researched, corporate radio biz. The people running broadcasting today are not people who truly love the craft of radio, with colorful, locally-based, impulsive personalities, he says. Today, Bicknell devotes his time to a business he owns, Read Street Sound And Video in Baltimore, and his voice is widely heard on spots nationwide. The father of three, Bicknell lives with his wife in Linthicum......
