Welcome to Washington DC & Baltimore Area Radio & Television, DCRTV for short. DCRTV was created in 1997 and is an independent, non-profit forum about radio and television (including cable) in the Washington DC and Baltimore area. DCRTV is not connected to or aligned with any organization or company and is solely the creation of me, Dave Hughes, a freelance writer living in the Washington area.

I've been a radio & TV freak since my childhood. I grew up in the New York and the Philadelphia areas and was a big fan of top forty WFIL and WIBG, as well as powerhouse WABC. I moved to the Washington DC area and became a WPGC and WEAM fan. As my musical tastes transformed from contemporary hits to progressive rock I switched to then-WGTB and the old WHFS. Over the years I've done a lot of "DXing" on the broadcast and shortwave bands as well as on my travels throughout North America and Europe. I have a degree in communication arts and political science from James Madison University in the Shenandoah Valley. I've worked as a court/politics/police reporter for Times Community Newspapers, a Northern Virginia newspaper chain, and Associated Press. I've been news editor of Radio World and TV Technology newspapers in Falls Church, Virginia, and Washington bureau chief of New York City-based PSN Publications. I've also written for Television Broadcast, Government & Military Video, and Videography magazines, and the RadioDigest website. I currently operate a writing, reporting, and research service. For more about what I'm into, visit Daveland.
