That Simply Wall Street article about Cumulus was enlightening. The passage that caught my eye was, "Cumulus Media had $972.9M in debt in December 2020 ... it also had $271.8M in cash, and so its net debt is $701.2M." First, it's appalling that the company could be almost $1B in debt, but then there's the cash-stash. I can't give credit to the company for its business acumen when it comes to having $271.8M, since a great deal of that came from selling off what I call its "crown jewels" -- WPLJ New York, MIX here in DC, the plot of land that hosted the old WMAL towers, and on it goes. IMO, the company sold off its greatest broadcast assets just to keep the name "Cumulus" afloat. I wonder if it was worth it?

666 vs. 702 million made me chuckle. OOBBEE

The $666 million in debt for Cumulus Media was an understatement. It's actually more than $702 million. Here's your proof: simplywall.st... Happy now?

Does anyone remember 1999 when a crane was loose over TV Hill? Right now, all of Maryland is under a high wind warning or a wind advisory and it reminded me of the time a crane on the Candelabra was loose and a hurricane was on the way. www.baltimoresun.com... That was a long time ago, getting ready for the digital transition. Channel 2, 13, and 11 antennas were being replaced with stacks to allow combined digital and analog operation on 2/52, 11/59, and 13/38. With that history maybe the fight over a field to use a helicopter for the most recent antenna lifts makes a bit more sense.

Ken Roberts, the DC Cumulus Market Manager died recently. Who is the new DC Market Manager for WMAL and WSBN?

WBAL NewsRadio 1090/FM 101.5 was recently announced as a finalist in 6 categories in the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards. WBAL News earned five nominations, including Outstanding Spot News reporting for its coverage of an explosion at a row home in west Baltimore in August of 2020. The station also received nominations in the Outstanding Newscast and Documentary/In-Depth Reporting categories, and Robert Lang and Scott Wykoff received nominations in the Best Anchor and Best Reporter categories, respectively. Additionally, WBAL’s morning team of C4 and Bryan Nehman were nominated in the Outstanding Talk Show Category. “WBAL NewsRadio is honored by this recognition from the Chesapeake AP," said Cary Pahigian, the station's President and General Manager. “After 96 years of service, WBAL remains resolute in our 24/7 commitment to dependable breaking news coverage and fair-minded analysis and debate.” The winners in each category will be announced during the Virtual Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards Show on Saturday, July 10.

Someone recently posted that Cumulus has $666 Million in Debt. Can you document this? If so, let's see it.

One WMAL on the payroll contributor, and his wife, a frequent political commentator on WMAL, had their home raided by the FBI, the same day the former President's lawyer's home and office were raided by the Southern District of New York Attorney General's Office, and some here think that's not local media news? Gus, www.google.com. it is , and has been called since at least 1968, political "rat f#cking."

The guy who took donations to help make the WHFS movie seven or eight years ago is still hawking T-shirts, mugs, etc....am I a bad person just because I think the movie should be made at some point? If you're going to make the movie, make the movie, and if you're not, stop selling all the associated shit. I know I'm not the only one who's lost faith in this project. I didn't put in a ton of money, but it was a lot to me, and frankly I'd rather be told it's been called off than go on with this charade.

"Biden putting pressure on a Ukrainian official to resign or back off of an investigation of Biden's son." Uh, yeah, no. It was then-President Poroshenko whom Biden pressured to fire prosecutor Shokin and there is videotape of Biden gloating about it. "As for Bill Hess, I have cc'd Bill on those posts, and I know a member of the WMAL news staff reads DCRTV religiously to keep up with Baltimore media stuff, and forwards posts, so, Bill got the message." Dude. Someone from WMAL reads this site to keep up with Baltimore but not DC? Mr. Hess doesn't read your emails. You are a proper Rupert Pupkin. Gus worried about your basement

RE: Political posts on DCRTV. I only post responses to political posts normally. I didn’t start the DiGenova/Giuliani post barely related to WMAL, but I sure as hell will finish it and shove the crackhead Hunter China Syndrome back in your face for good measure. I’d rather talk about radio and TV. But if you can dish it out, you at least should be able to take it back. Apparently liberals are the ones who can’t take it and also the same ones that love media censorship and cancel culture. The Baltimore Sun doesn’t even allow comments on their stories anymore, nor do pretty much any of the Tribune publications. The Washington Post still does I think, but they keep deleting my account, hence another media company involved in censorship. Hypocrisy isn’t even considered a bad thing anymore by today’s media.

Gender Pronoun - CHEAP! So, the FBI raided Giuliani's & DiGenova's pads yesterday. While they were at it, they should of raided BaltoMedia.net too - look for spare change under the couch cushions to pay DCRTV DAVE for their continued cheap, blatant and unethical freeloading behavior. BaltoMedia.net follow the lead of DCRTV sponsor Cayman Kelly, [included in Benztown list of the top 50 Imaging Voices in the U.S. and Canada], and purchase a damn display ad. Then, like with caymankelly.com, Dave will promote you as a sponsor in the malebag. BaltoMedia.net, empty those parking meters you had placed in your driveway and pay Dave! Or, continue to be 'tarred and feathered' in the DCRTV Public Square. The Real AHHHH. Legend.

It has been 100 Days since Biden became President and still no appointment for Chairman of the FCC. Jessica Rosenworcel is keeping the chair warm, The FCC needs Direction. July 13, 2021 is coming soon.....that is the date that the Channel 6 LPTV Stations are suppose to go DIGITAL! These 29 LPTV Stations have had two years to prepare for this move. These LPTV Stations have never operated as Television Stations as intended. They have operated as FM Radio Stations using their audio channel 87.7 FM. The owners of these LPTV Stations should turn in their license to the FCC if they do not comply by July 13, 2021. They have had plenty of time to convert to DIGITAL. Why not award these valuable licenses to Minorities who will operate these LPTV Stations as Real Television Stations!

The TMOS website has been redesigned to look like crap from the 1990s and Pony Boy's credit has been removed. I'd like to say this is a step in the right direction but I wasn't put on this planet to lie. This has Imus's fingerprints all over it. We don't tell you that maybe the check didn't come through this month, or where the hell does it go anyway, if you're a guy who's left 16 forwarding addresses and $26,000 in unpaid ABC fines. Gus the Human Chimp Signing "Hurt"

As a fan or your website, I must say that I am crestfallen at what it has become under this mail bag on the front page deal. The foolishness that I read on your page today (pasted below) is not indicative of what I have come to know as the DCRTV brand. Please bring back what it used to be! [RE: The WMAL & Joe DiGenova FBI raid. Rudy wasn’t on WABC 770 yesterday btw, after his FBI search. I listened but they did fill in programming. But he’ll be on Hannity tonight and I’m sure on WABC 770 tomorrow at 3pm (sometimes receivable in DC and this area)... ]
For the DCRTV record, Israeli officials in 2018 revealed they had targeted 200 Iranian installations in Iraq and Syria, so timing on the "Kerry Gate" is critical. I remember as if it was yesterday Mark Levin "breaking" the "news" of Biden putting pressure on a Ukrainian official to resign or back off of an investigation of Biden's son. Mark played the Meet the Press theme in the background, and kept quoting the then Hill's John Solomon (who had just been demoted from Investigative Journalist to Political Commentator by The Hill for previous published inaccuracies with his reporting). The Ukraine story was grossly distorted, and conflated two different Ukraine Ministers spanning a four year period. The fabrication made it to the White House, and led to Trump's first impeachment. Last year, The Hill did not renew John Solomon's contract, and John is now with the pseudo newspaper The Washington Examiner. As for Bill Hess, I have cc'd Bill on those posts, and I know a member of the WMAL news staff reads DCRTV religiously to keep up with Baltimore media stuff, and forwards posts, so, Bill got the message. We must ask ourselves, " Why are WMAL's friends and family being investigated for colluding with foreign governments in order to destroy our democracy?".

RE: The WMAL & Joe DiGenova FBI raid. Rudy wasn’t on WABC 770 yesterday btw, after his FBI search. I listened but they did fill in programming. But he’ll be on Hannity tonight and I’m sure on WABC 770 tomorrow at 3pm (sometimes receivable in DC and this area)... Guiliani put away mobsters! You think he’ll let woke morons at the FBI draw him into a sting operation? I think not. But The Washington Post is hard at work to find something, so don’t worry, they will. I’m sure Jeff Bezos’ crack using team of reporters will find something other than Hunter. The funniest thing about Rudy Guiliani is that if he didn’t openly support gay rights, he’d have been a Republican President BEFORE Trump! And finally, we have an EYE WITNESS, Tony Bobulinski with Hunter Biden and yet crickets? GIVE ME A BREAK! If Trump were calling these shots, we’d have simultaneous impeachments of him and prosecution of anyone involved. People are not stupid. The media double standard is now not even argued among people INSIDE the media. They know it and even brag about it, their power and in 2020, they flexed it, got rid of Trump, but STILL almost lost the House and Senate. 2022 without Mail-In voting scams + Census numbers favoring Repubs is gonna be one son of a bitch.

The Washington Post sure is doing a shitty job of promoting Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin. They lost out to Elon Musk for the manned Moon flight and now he’ll be on SNL instead of Bezos to the horror of cast members. Bezos needs to buy better promoters. He now has filed a complaint with the Biden Administration so maybe some critical coverage of the President Biden/Grandpa Simpson Administration now? I mean, can you imagine if Trump had done FBI raids during a State of the Union? They would be showing Godfather movie clips on the news! The Post would have gone bonkers too if that had happened. Maybe Bezos should crash some more vehicles? Perfect landings are quite boring. www.youtube.com... The Starship crashes make for great TV. I watch them all over and over. I’ve heard of people having Starship Explosion drinking parties. I guess Grandpa Joe has been watching and chose the crashing vehicle to take humans to the moon over the one that actually lands. Makes perfect sense of course. He’s in total control, well of his bowels today at least. And on another media note, doesn’t it bother anyone that the FBI is raiding the homes of FOX News contributors? So much for free press under wokeism and Cancel Culture. I think Janice Dean is next on the list. The Cuomo Crime Family will not let her live. They haven’t killed enough people and Fox is getting close to finding Jimmy Hoffa. We cannot let that happen. — Pretending to be Gus

"As we all know, in November of 2019, I pleaded to Bill Hess, right here on DCRTV" Neoewww, Scott, we dewn't all know that. Do you really think Mr. Hess comes here to pick up his mail? Do you understand how unhinged you sound? Is Bill Hess your Jodie Foster? Your Brocktoon? Gus endlessly amused by the King of Comedy

Dave's response: Has anyone seen Bill Hess in person since 2017? I didn't think so. The essence of what "Bill Hess" once was is now merely a Cumulus internet bot.....

Hey Dave, as you know this morning the Southern District of New York raided Rudy Giuliani's Manhattan condo. This afternoon , the FBI raided Joe DiGenova and Victoria Toensing's home in Alexandria, VA. Seems they are looking into those clowns dealings in the Ukraine during Trump's administration. DiGenova was (is?) a featured commentator every Monday morning on WMAL, and his wife Toensing was a frequent guest commenting on the 2016 and 20 elections also on WMAL. As we all know, in November of 2019, I pleaded to Bill Hess, right here on DCRTV, to fire DiGenova, and march DiGenova's ass down to the FBI over his Ukraine dealings, representing Russian Ukrainian oligarchs who had been indicted in US Federal Courts, and lying about it on WMAL and to the feds. Bill, because he is a Russian propagandists, refused, and now we have the FBI carrying computers out of Joe and Victoria's house. The FBI warrant on Giuliani stated they were, among other things, looking for communicaton records with DC's own John Soloman, who, with Dan Bongino, started the Biden Ukraine smear in 2019. Could Mark Levin and Dan Bongino be far behind? As of the 5:30 PM news on WMAL, there was no mention of the Toensing raid.

Re: “Good bye Wisdom” due to new guy joining Fox5. The new guy will be on evening shift. Unless you’re thinking there will be a switcheroo of the new guy to mornings & Wisdom to evenings. Now, lately Wisdom’s been quite over the top, but I really don’t see him leaving. Who knows though. We’ve seen some unexpected exits over there lately..BTW, any word on Sarah Simmons’ whereabouts?

Kelly also becomes imaging voice for KKDA-FM (K104: Dallas/Ft. Worth) and KZCE (Phoenix)... Best-selling author and radio personality Cayman Kelly proudly announced he had been included on this year's Benztown list of the top 50 Imaging Voices in the U.S. and Canada. Each year Benztown partners with P1 Media Group to compile the list from over 300 surveyed U.S. and Canadian broadcast groups, based on voice talent recognition, station count, station information, and overall audience reach. Kelly is a two-time recipient of the award, while also announcing he had been selected as the imaging voice for K104: Hip Hop and R&B and the new throwback station, KZCE 101.1: The Bounce. Best-selling author and radio personality Cayman Kelly has been included on this year’s Benztown list of the top 50 Imaging Voices in the U.S. and Canada. Best-selling author and radio personality Cayman Kelly has been included on this year’s Benztown list of the top 50 Imaging Voices in the U.S. and Canada. "Making the Benztown list is a big honor for a variety of reasons," said Kelly. "First of all, it's industry acknowledgement of all the hard work that voiceover artists do – day-in and day-out – to keep radio and voiceover art alive and thriving. There's also a deeply personal and humbling sense of satisfaction for me, appearing on this list with so many other amazing artists and performers. Each of our journeys have been uniquely different and inspiring – but we're all a family of sorts. And I'm deeply grateful to be where I am today." K104, Dallas/Ft. Worth: A Leading Station for Over Four Decades... "Cayman is one of the premiere voices in media and culture today," said Service Broadcasting Group's Head of Content, George "Geo" Cook. "He and I have been looking for ways to collaborate for a while now. Thankfully, Cayman's agent Robin Steinfeld at Don Buchwald & Associates, and my Head of Production Jerry Vigil made it happen. All of us at K104, DeDe in the Morning, and the SBG Content Factory are elated to have Cayman join our meta-team and add his distinctive voice and creative talent to our content." "Geo and I have a long history, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be working with him," said Kelly. "I first walked into K104's studios as a young man on a promo tour for a calendar that I was in, 21 years ago, long before I became a radio imaging voice. I remember thinking, I would love to work at this radio station! And here I am now, full circle. Life has a funny way of working out." The Voice of Cayman Kelly at KZCE, Phoenix... "Cayman Kelly is top shelf," said radio veteran and KZCE founder, John Candelaria. "When we developed the unique sound of KZCE, we wanted to create more than a big voice growling at female listeners; we wanted someone who can actually have fun with scripts and connect with the target. Cayman is that signature voice. He can turn it up, turn it down, and his range is limitless. He actually makes my copy come alive. He is easy to work with and his turnaround is fast and always correct. I have not received one error with any of his reads. I am very meticulous when it comes to casting a new station and grateful that Cayman is more than a voice person. He is a true partner that collaborates with me to help build the brand." Over the past three/four months since Galdi, Czabe, and Doc were essentially told to try find a different venue I have been listing to less and less sports radio. At 10:00 each week day I listed to Andy on 630 and maybe to Russell on 106.7 if I can hear him. After Kevin Sheehan leaves at 9:00AM there is nothing I want to hear. I am forced to turn to pods from Galdi, Sheehan, and Tony K. We need these guys back on the air between 9:00AM and 6:00PM. The sound quality in the afternoon and night for 630 and 980/106.7 in Gainesville, VA is tinning or no sound at all. Thanks. Bill in Gainesville

I got this Dave from someone who worked (VOLUNTEERED) at WMUC back in the day that I found rather interesting. Anyone know who she’s talking about? I think I know who and it’s not someone at WYPR anymore I don’t think: Yes. But you should’ve seen how WYPR were a bunch of dicks to us. Very arrogant letters and all sorts of stuff. They never cared about us or what harm they were doing. They offered to help us stream online, which was hilarious because we had been doing that back in 2006 for at least 3 to 4 years by then. I wish I had a copy of that letter and press statement still. It was very tone deaf and out of touch. The whole issue of NPR stations over throwing college radio was really taking root by the mid-2000’s. Bad enough corporate radio was awful, but we all quickly realized how NPR was a monopoly too. DC was oversaturated with NPR stations. It was pretty depressing that the college station I grew up listening to in far Western Maryland had become full fledge NPR with hardly anything local. And WYPR had this whole mission to be the NPR station for the state. “Your public radio” oh please. The airwaves are frankly meant for communities and the public, but power and money have more say than anything. (Real talk - It’s so touching that WETA is offering a transmitter. It shows to me how much they’ve changed in attitude.) Entire genres of music have died or dried up, because they lack presence on radio. Without airplay from rock stations (and there aren’t enough rock stations nationally for a single to break the hot 100), there are no crossover hits these days for instance. I started noticing such sad issues like this and media consolidation, because of what WMUC went through. All of us at the station were prepared for the worst. We survived because of our own grit, a few solid college administrators and some very powerful alumni. Sure I only hosted a show on 10 watts of power, but it was thrilling to play real music for people. I wish we could get the class D issue resolved, but we’re talking the FCC here. A lot of politics and corporate interests. Towards the end of my time at Maryland, we had experimented with moving the frequency to 87.9 since it was no longer used for tv channels, but obviously that didn’t work out for some reason. Our hope back in 2009 was for our license to be corrected (I think that was the term) and to move to a more stable frequency. The fact station is still run by students is amazing. And if I done my math correctly, we also got a 90th birthday to celebrate soon.” — BaltoMedia.net

So May 3rd Fox5 DC is advertising their new guy who happens to be Black....so Good Bye Wisdom! lol

"TMOS should be interesting after a week’s vacation." Yeah, you'd think that wouldn't you, with any other show? I personally don't take medical advice from radio talkers whether they be Imus or Levin. It's like having farts blown in your mouth (I imagine). "Picture it" as Estelle Getty used to say on The Golden Girls. When your vacation consists of sitting at home ... I'm sure many projects got done and probly you'll hear about them later in the week. So TMOS comes back from vacation….A total five minute intro on being back….. Then, Mike on COVID for 40 minutes. I mean 40 minutes of Mike on COVID. People waited a week to hear his boring take on this subject again??? Is that the best they can do after a week off? 40 minutes wih the King of COVID Pontificating with flunky one and two lapping up his ass? Maybe not: These days the most popular topic in The Lonely Hearts FB Fan Club is pictures of vaccinations and CDC cards. Are his listeners as boring as he is these days? Finally ten minutes about Bob’s FLA trip. I guess Oscar’s trip can wait.

To the poster who wrote a long history of radio in DC, the part about WKDV 1460AM and WKCW 1420AM is inaccurate. WKDV was never a Disney channel and WKDV never used WKCW in Warrenton as a relay station. When both stations were owned by Metro Radio, one was doing a Spanish hits format and the other a regional Mexican format. In other words, both stations programmed Spanish. Neither was ever used by Disney or as a relay station. Several years ago, Metro Radio sold WKCW 1420AM in Warrenton. Recently, WKDV 1460AM lost their tower lease in Manassas and Metro Radio will sell WKDV and its translator, 97.7 FM in Reston.

But today, we celebrate his leadership and innovation moving forward as we blaze new trails while creating unprecedented solutions for our business partners.”

In the Mid 1980s through the early 1990s when I finally said "Screw it" and moved to Fauquier County. I used to sit in my car in the Beacon Mall shopping Center(Where the Beacon Hill Giant is) and listen to WMUC 88.1 "The greatest 10 watts of rock anywhere" "The Coat-hanger antenna Station" According to their own promos of the time But Alas, since then we have seen the increasing AMization of FM. While 'HFS was in transition The combination of that and the ability to listen on Shortwave to Radio Luxembourg (Already past it's peak) saved my musical soul. The FCC continues to make the same mistake they did on AM in the 1950s and 60s with the same effect. You can run 1000 watts and barely get ACROSS THE STREET. Just to show the difference interference can make, in the mid and late1990s when there were not so many stations on the extended AM band I could tune up 1640-KCJJ in IOWA CITY and ride it all the way to my home in Southern Fauquier. AFTER having WTOP(then only on 1500) get stepped on by a full legal ID and time check in Central Time for KSTP St Paul. If I were in charge I would extend the FM band DOWNWARDS to encompass all of old analog channel 6, All the way to 82 MHZ Knowing it would take a few years to get the new radios into wide-spread use, I would try to fill it in this way: Make it all "Class A " frequencies at first Incentivize all the FM Translators of AM Stations to swap-out their FM Translator for a full Class A on the extended band. Then after a couple of years try to incentivise the remaining 10-watt Public Stations to swap that for 100 watts on the extended band. As for WKDV. The most surprising thing is that it lasted as long as it did! TWICE! Once as WPRW, which was never more than an average Top 40 station, even in it's very best years in the early 1970s. Even though it was a full 5000 watt AM Most of the Rt1 corridor from South of Ft Belvoir to Alexandria could not get it or got it with interference because the FCC in it's infinite wisdom, had put a station on 730 (first harmonic 1460) in Mt Vernon Woods right behind Huntly Meadows park. That was a daytimer and once it went down for the night it was all good on 1460. Once "Radio Disney" and WKDV parted ways it should have been down for the count at that time. the only thing they did since then that time was their attempts at Spanish radio in their last days. That short-lived relay of Warrenton's WKCW was actually rather strange, given that it had been like 15 years since WKCW had managed to bring in a new advertising account. I'm rambling, so I'll shut up now but there were tings I felt I needed to vent about...

Dave's response: When I lived in my condo in Reston VA, there was one - just one - parking space where 89.7 WTMD's progressive rock came in loud and clear. And that was the only place in my neighborhood where I could get a decent signal from Towson MD's TMD. Ah, isn't FM reception mysterious.....

Made me want to gag. Kanye West sneakers sold for millions and they both commented about who would want to buy his stinky sneakers. They need to keep their comments to themselves. Don’t remember what happened to Blake McCoy?

As time goes on, thinking more and more that either NBC4 is gradually phasing out Doreen or she's slowing phasing herself out towards retirement. We're seeing her less and less and seeing Shawn Yancey more and more. As for the new guy at WTTG, I'm sure it was a strategic move as they have no African Amercan anchors on any of their evening broadcasts. Curious as to what the chemistry will be between him and Angie.

I think the main reason for this is that you cannot get WMUC very easily at the stadium or the Comcast Center or in the High Rise Dining Halls from the South Dining Hall antenna. In other words, the university itself can’t pick up the signal inside its own buildings. That’s how bad the signal really is! True that college kids stream, but only when it’s FREE Dave! In the dorms, the internet is part of your college fees, but when you're out and about, it’s your own dime. Duh. 90.5 FM though even at 30 watts should come in quite well even off the campus. Today walking across the street to McDonalds means WMUC is gone.

Draper’s making some waves on the eastern shore by proposing to build a new tower in Milton, Delaware for WRDE NBC Coast TV for satellite WSJZ-LD and at nearly 500 feet, about 100 feet taller than the current WXDE tower. While still in Sussex County, the signal from the as of yet unbuilt tower will stretch well into Kent County to Dover, encroaching on the Philly market and even hit south Jersey, both of which carry NBC O&O WCAU. I’m told Comcast will likely refuse to carry the signal in Dover, but Draper has more leverage than the former WRDE owners had since WBOC is already on the cable up there and WCAU carries no local Delaware news for the county or Dover. Are they daring Comcast/NBC to pull the affiliation? Hmm. — BaltoMedia.net

For those wondering, this is WMUC’s unassuming tower. Brings back college memories of the South Hill Dining Hall bad food. :-)

"The FCC announced a new Rule today." Wait, what? The FCC can make RULES? That will be news to some. "The original creation of the Federal Radio Act and the FCC says this is ILLEGAL!" Puhleeze, stop stamping your tiny little can't cope with life feet. I've explained this to you. See David Oxenford's article at broadcastlawDOTcom, as I've told you before. Here's how it works Beaver, Congress makes the law and creates agencies to which Congress delegates the power to make regulations as they deem fit. "How is foreign opinion on America either important or valuable or in the public interest?" Why does that scare you, CCWL? What about the Supreme Court Justice who said she should be consulting with foreign constitutions in making her judgements? Besides, only a couple hundred movers and shakers on Capitol Hill actually listen. Be on the lookout for my new show simulcast on Voice of America and Mexican Radio! Gus saucing the goose and the gander

For a while, channel 20 had a 10 pm newscast done out of Richmond. In my opinion, it started as a high quality product with one news reader and almost all hard news with none of the idle chitchat, opinions, and celebrity gossip so common in what claims to be TV "news" these days. But then they add Rob Desir as a second "anchor" and the program quickly went downhill until it was killed. Hard to say whether the rapid decline was due to Desir and a news reader, or simply the fact that adding a second "anchor" almost always leads to bloviating replacing some or much of the real news.

Dave's response: That was Channel 50.....

Would the fool who keeps yammering about Cumulus buying WKDV (1460) and its associated FM translator W249DX (97.7) please STFU! There are several reasons why this is absurd. After being granted a construction permit to downgrade WKDV from 5kW day and night to 950W day and 65W night, a nighttime signal that barely covers Manassas, WKDV lost its transmitter site. The station and the translator have been SILENT since December. Further, Cumulus, a company with $666 million in debt, has been selling FM stations in DC, NYC and LA at fire sale prices, not to mention shedding tower sites and real estate. Why would Cumulus have the slightest interest in spending anything to buy a silent station with no tower site and an insignificant dinkwatt night signal? I'll take Gus' silliness any day over some know-nothing who embarrasses themselves by posting this nonsense.

RE: WMUC. Too little too late for them to complain about interference isn’t it? I’m pretty sure the whining window is now closed. WMUC has had enough opportunities to move and change the signal. Maybe it’s time they just switch to carrier current signal instead of being a pimple on the WYPR ass?

Dave's response: Don't college kids stream about 99% of their music? Why does WMUC even bother with something as old fashioned as radio.....

FOX5 must’ve heard all the criticism after they parted ways with both Allison Seymour and Shawn Yancy as Rob Desir marks the third high-profile anchor hire for the station since that time and all three are black. Wonder if Rob will get every Friday off like Angie Goff and Sue Palka do?

Have seen the promos for the new guy at Fox5 & he’s talking as if this is the opportunity of a lifetime. He’s not the first anchor who’s come to Fox5 as if they’ve reached the “big time”. Yeah, some have come from smaller markets, but some haven’t. So is Fox5 really a great opportunity or is it just because it’s located in Wash DC & a step to going to the network as a number have done?

WBAL Radio still doesn't get it. They are holding a virtual town hall on youth and violence in the city. Sounds good, but the problem is former state delegate Bobby Zirkin and Bryan Newman are the hosts, along with C4. Two middle aged white guys who don't live in the city should not be hosting this event. Nehman lives nowhere near his primary listening audience. If you've followed his career, then you know he's from the DC area. Maybe even living in northern Virginia. There are so many other people in Baltimore who could be of part of this important topic.

NEWS! WMUC has applied to upgrade from 10 watts on 88.1 to 30 watts on 90.5. Since they are a class D with no protection, WYPR's power upgrades over the years have all but obliterated that 10 watt signal - according to the documentation there are parts of the campus where it is unusable - and obviously WYPR has significant problems in the area as well. This is a project 3 years in the making and they even obtained waivers from second-adjacent WETA and WCSP to accept the increased interference. The new signal should be listenable in some parts of DC. fcc.gov

I find it interesting that WTTG Fox 5 didn’t even mention moving its antenna, did they? I searched their website, watched the news that day, no mention that I saw. Conversely, in Baltimore the candelabra antenna chopper lift was a BIG STORY on all 3 TV stations and even some national media people came to watch the complexity and spectacle of it and I bet similar stories happened in Philadelphia, which also has a huge candelabra tower. But the River Road tower thing was just blah, like something from That 70’s Show, “Oh, someone’s actually going to use the old WDCA 20 tower again? Did Captain 20 show up?" Yep, DC needs an up to today’s Top 10 TV market standards Television tower and still does not have one yet after all these decades and just one failed attempt. Apparently OOBBEE was the only person excited by this event sadly?

NEWS! Fox 5 has picked up Rob Desir from WTVR 6 in Richmond to replace some of its lost talent. His first day will be May 3.

TMOS should be interesting after a week’s vacation. The last bonus show was either an honest let’s beat up Bob again or a set up. Why was anyone surprised that Bob’s big get (Hold on, I am laughing) for a guest was a washed-up Wallenda after spectacularly failing on getting a fart comic who would love to be called washed up someday?? And, while Bob kept it low, it was actually Twitch who booked him. Yes, ex-JFKer, circus freak Twitch. (Listener Announcers sucked and mad work for Bob.) The same Twitch who became the announcer over Dude during that F-ed up format change which really should replace the pig/lipstick line in DC communications. Wow Twitch booked a high wire guy. Imagine that?? Bob took credit. (Sort-of). Bob takes a bit of a beating…WTFCs. Oscar announces he told Bob he would fund a “Booker”? Maybe Twitch? Maddy is leaving??? Her salary to Twitch? Maybe it was in the works for months?? (Don’t ever mention Friday’s off in the club.) God knows they need a 4th wheel. It ain’t Pony. Mike falls asleep when Oscar or Bob tells a story. He can’t follow or doesn’t care. Mike is running out of vaccination and his health topics. No more Trump bashing and Biden is boring. Oscar won’t answer Mike’s texts. That is Bob’s job to tell Oscar about Mike’s texts. Oscar is busy trying to save PodLand or what ever the new name is. Bob can’t book a fart comic. Need I say more? Oh yeah, the lonely hearts club on facebook is bitching about “best of” sucking off. When they are bitching openly, TMOS is really sucking.

The bigger question about WZHF 1390 AM and Translator 105.5 FM is WHY are we allowing ANY foreign government (Russia or China or anybody) on our airwaves to influence anyone in the country politically? The original creation of the Federal Radio Act and the FCC says this is ILLEGAL! So why are we discussing identifying the government when we should be arguing it shouldn’t be happening even at all? How is foreign opinion on America either important or valuable or in the public interest? It’s not like we cannot seek these opinions out easily outside the nation’s airwaves. We are not China or Russia where they have restrictions. I can watch RTV any time I want. And I mean well, of course, foreign powers that threaten our national security. Is IRAN next on DC AM radio? i wonder. I thought Trump was reckless, but Biden is making that a party. I guarantee you this will change after 2022. www.tvtechnology.com

NextGen TV Update: FOX is converting its Orlando station WOFL to ATSC 3.0 via duopoly with WRBW, a FOX Plus station as of June. This is if not the first, one of the first NextGen TV FOX O&O conversions. Most network stations have not gone NexGen. It’s been mainly the affiliates driving the change. NBC has yet to convert an O&O that I know of. DC is in a completely different situation though since FOX traded in WDCA’s channel for cash and doesn’t have a 2nd channel and I’m guessing there’s reluctance to rely on Sinclair, but how else could it be done? Only on worse signaled LPTVs. None of the DC TV stations have enough RF capacity to accept another ATSC 1.0 station + all its subchannels with 95% market coverage. I think Sinclair buying WIAV really caught some of the DC media companies by surprise and now they have no choice. For Tegna, it’s likely not a problem, nor for Nexstar or Scripps as they already have deals in other markets, but I could see WRC NBC 4 having reservations about having to rely on Sinclair for their signal just as CBS’s WJZ has balked in Baltimore, even if only for 5 years. Baltimore transitions nearly the entire market as of June 8 on a signal that will reach a lot of DC, so you might be more likely to get NextGen TV from Baltimore before DC. The Sinclair deals are already done with Scripps, Hearst, and Maryland Public TV with CBS as the only hold out. No deals are known in DC still yet. I’m surprised WJLA hasn’t even announced yet. — BaltoMedia.net

Patrick made me chuckle. OOBBEE

When Trump was President, he said that every new Rule passed by the FCC..... they must delete two old rules. It never happened! No word on this from Biden. No Chairman of the FCC yet.

The FCC announced a new Rule today. Broadcast Sponsorship Identification Requirements provided by Foreign Governments. Each hour the Foreign Government must be identified. For example, WZHF 1390 AM and Translator 105.5 FM must identify that their programming is provided by Russia. These Stations run the Russian Propaganda in DC.

Dave: I'm Patrick the person who sent you the $50.00 check. I enjoy reading your web site everyday. People should be like me and give you some of their stimulus money for the outstanding job you do everyday. I would like less Gus

Dave's response: Many thanks Patrick.....

"I don’t think Pat Lawson could take anymore of Shawn Yancy. The tension is thick with that duo. What is NBC4 thinking? Yancy is not working with this team.” I’ve been paying attention to how other anchors respond to Shawn. It does appear that everyone else seems to have warmed to her. Management must have called Pat on her very obvious distain, because she’s being a tad more civil toward Shawn. Pat’s behavior has been very unprofessional. Personally I’ve always found Pat to be pretty sanctimonious and haughty. She’s never seemed warm and her humor appears forced. Other than the departed Angie Goff, she’s my least favorite anchor there and I’ve been watching WRC’s news since the 60’s.

I hate to go more political like everyone else, but it’s local and Baltimore made national news again last night for public humiliation on FOX News as did NBC & MSNBC and once again Tucker was involved, a current topic. A professor from Baltimore’s Morgan State University stated that knife fights are common with kids growing up and that police shouldn’t get involved. Now this caught my attention for one particular reason. I grew up in Baltimore City not far from Morgan State University, rode my bike to near the campus & jogged the Herring Run Trail to Hall Springs. NO SIR, we did NOT grow up with knife fights as normal in Baltimore City, not any people I knew, white or black! How does this professor not only keep his job at the university, but also a job on a major NATIONAL NEWS network like MSNBC with established credibility as an expert while spreading absolute misinformation and race-baiting HATE? I know our black neighbors did NOT think like the so-called esteemed professor/expert contributor nor did we. Yes, this is my childhood neighborhood, so it’s personal and it’s so called experts like him that have destroyed it. Joe Fab

Sinclair owned Columbus TV station WSYX ABC 6 causes a stir (bad pun and bad platform) and makes national news with security cam footage of that shooting of a stabbing perpetrator clearly showing a justified shooting. The black neighbor clearly had his security camera trained on that house for a reason and he backed the police officer, completely against the media narrative, so you might not see that video on WRC NBC 4 and certainly not on WJZ CBS 13. WRC’s NBC Nightly News didn’t even mention the knife in the 911 call or show it. I guess MSNBC and CNN will call for all of Sinclair’s TV licenses in DC and Baltimore to now be revoked now right? It’s getting impossible to watch MSNBC at all anymore. Today they said, “Who hasn’t been in a harmless knife fight as a kid?” Well my hand is up. I always said that when Participation Award Woke Millennials (who mostly get their news from Youtube robotic voiced videos I might add) started making important decisions in the corporate, media, and government world, we were in deep trouble far worse than global warming. And it’s official. Society is devolving instead of evolving. The media, local and national, needs to pay more attention to the temperature of mature discussion and factual journalism rather than the temperature of the earth and self designed political narratives. In other news, WMPB, WFPT, and WCPB have all applied to change their signals and Draper is changing one of the multiple signals for WRDE NBC Coast TV again on the shore, this time via WSJZ moving to a tower further north in Delaware to get closer to Dover.

Tucker Carlson is a victim. Just ask him. He is a victim because he is White. He is a victim because he is a male. He is a victim because he was born wealthy and is still wealthy. He is a victim because he is a "Conservative." He is a victim because he supported Trump. He is a victim because he supports the police. He is a victim because he is a Christian. He is a victim for paying taxes. He is a victim for allegedly being straight. And he is a victim when he is called out for mocking things like police shootings, and women soldiers ( just this week). Poor Tucker Carlson. I feel really bad for him and what he has been going through most of his life. Please keep this brave man in your prayers. Also, please keep in your prayers that nice woman who Tucker hit on in Philadelphia in 2000.

I received a very generous $50 bank processed check in the mail from a DCRTV supporter the other day. I wrote down the donor's name from the check on a piece of paper and later couldn't find it, so I can't personally thank the donor. If it was you, thank you! By the way, if you'd like to help support DCRTV you can do so via PayPal at paypal.me/dcrtv or via the USPS at Dave Hughes, 104 N Green St #116, Morganton NC 28655. We recently lost two long time advertisers, O'Meara and Cavell Mertz, and the support from our readers and contributors is particularly greatly appreciated right now. Many thanks! - Dave

The main problem with all digital AM is that the IBOC system does not really improve the sound quality that much because it’s designed from the ground up to also contain the analog most importantly and it doesn’t use newer codecs that ATSC 3.0 uses to increase quality while compressing the size of the digital packets to a minimum. And that simply doesn’t offer the best redundancy for AM radio. Simply it’s not enough bang for the buck. It’s an improvement, but with serious issues, especially at night. With FM, IBOC still doesn’t rival streaming quality either. ATSC 3.0 is giving the FCC a great window of opportunity for transforming radio to future proof standards. ATSC end user equipment is all upgradeable. There’s no reason All Digital Radio couldn’t be either. Why not use some of its best features instead of relying on the now 20 year old IBOC technology? ATSC 3.0 is right now being tested in some car radio systems in Detroit and will be in a very short time in cars so if your system can pick up that audio, it should be an easy update to allow it to pick up AM or FM broadcasting that same codec. Also, about the Antenna Man and implications for this area. Well I just had this conversation with Rabbitears and WPVI ABC 6 is the major problem in the Channel 6 Conundrum. I suggested that WPVI use channel 29, which would only really interfere with WMDT 47 in Salisbury (both ABC stations I might add). The Eastern shore has more wiggle room on available TV channel space, so WMDT could easily find another channel (channel 14 being an obvious choice). But there's the obvious elephant in the room. Neither station would apply to or agree to do this on their own dime since the repack is already over. And it’s unlikely the FCC would step in in any major way to pay for this as it would require Congress, which is largely tech stupid. But that simple change would largely free up channel 6 for whatever purpose the FCC wants, ALL Digital Radio or REAL Digital LPTVs for minorities like they originally intended. The majority of the other Channel 6’s only got channel 6 to take the repack money and take their chances on the signal. They all could easily move and likely would, but once again, certainly not on their own dime. — BaltoMedia... PS: I know there’s an LPTV on channel 29 already in Philly and a channel 14 on Delmarva, but LPTVs are not protected, so they would have to fend for themselves and certainly could find other channels

About Tucker Carlson being threatened in DC: And Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon don’t ever exaggerate if not even fabricate their stories? I mean, c’mon, Cuomo was the Typhoid Mary of his neighborhood spreading both COVID lies and the disease himself all while faking being in lockdown while getting special attention from his father, the Don! And Don Lemon has the vapors more often than a stereotypical SNL Jewish old lady character! Lawrence O’Donnell is still trying out TV scripts from The West Wing that even Martin Sheen rejected as unbelievable! If his conspiracy stories about Trump were any more false, he’d be on the Ancient Aliens TV show. And I will not leave Hannity out. If I hear about his martial arts skills with reference to the Floyd trial one more time, I think I’d take him on in a fight with my cane after surgery. I think I would win.

I have known Tucker Carlson for 20 years, and worked with him for six years. I know when Tucker is embellishing or lying, and I knew, when he spoke of the demonstrations in front of his house, and how scared his wife was, he was embellishing the truth for politcal gain, which is one of the things Tucker does. There were about a dozen protesters in front of his house mostly across the street, chanting, and one had a very dangerous looking tambourine ( there is video out there). When the police were called, the group walked away, but one idiot, there is always one, spray painted a red "A" on Tucker's driveway. There were three interactions between Metro PD and the protesters that night, and the police reports only referenced the offense of Destruction of Property, ( the letter A). Tucker's wife told the Washington Post someone tried to break in the house, but she neglected to tell Metro PD that night that tidbit. Hmmm. Oh yes, and it was a few weeks before a Presidential election.

Is All-Digital Radio the answer for AM Radio? Cumulus Media will convert WFAS 1230 AM in the Hudson Valley to All-Digital in 30 days. Without a digital receiver you will not be able to hear the station. Perhaps Cumulus should convert WSBN 630 AM in DC to all Digital. Your thoughts?

At the 5:00 PM hour Larry O'Connor had on Virginia Gubernatorial candidate Amanda Chase to talk about why the Minnesota policeman shouldn't have been convicted. As we all know, Ms Chase has been flagged for using campaign contributions to reimburse her for expenses related to her attending the January insurection at the Capitol. I only caught the second half of the interview, so I don't know if Larry asked her about this illegal campaign transaction. Does anyone know if he asked her about it, if she bought zip ties with her, and if she got to meet the Sharma dude? Did Larry ask her if she bought a gun with her? Did Larry ask her if she actually breached the Capitol? Did Larry ask her if she still believes the election was "Stolen?" Did Larry as her about the makeshift gallows? Did Larry ask her if she were QAnon, Proud Boys, Virginia Flagger, or Bugaloo? My guess is NO. Larry, we need to know these things before we cast a vote for her in the primary. Whoops, there is no Republican primary this year, there is some kind of drive thru virtual convention. What could possibly go wrong? Signed The Right Honorable and Good Bishop EW Jackson.

Any implications in DC, Baltimore, Eastern Shore?

RE: Tucker not in DC. Actually he is still in DC on the air, but the woke media doxxed him and protestors ran him out of DC as far as his home, which I believe was in the Kalorama neighborhood, near Obama. They were literally threatening to kill his pregnant wife. This is BLM and ANTIFA at its worst. Of course Obama is allowed a fence and checkpoints around his entire property, but no one else is.

Whoever wrote the post including, "...assuaged the seeming automated downward spiral of local broadcasting" - - - I just read your whole pompous, flowery submission in Dr Smith's voice (Lost in Space). Whatever credibility and gravitas you were hoping for just went down the pipes and is on its way to the DC Blue Plains sewage plant.

I’ll bet that most of DC’s TV stations wish they’d have been repacked during the 5G spectrum sale. Baltimore basically got all new free ATSC 3.0 technology while WTTG Fox 5 had to pay for just staying on the air with their fledgling tower situation on Wisconsin Ave. Baltimore’s candelabra tower got the most construction done on it in decades including a brand new FM antenna stack, ATSC 3.0 tech, all free, paid for by the FCC and taxpayers. Who knows? DC might have actually gotten a new tower up to today’s standards too if they’d all contributed some extra. But alas, DC got preferential treatment in the repack apparently by the FCC as few TV stations had to move channels. I know the FCC used an algorithm to calculate all the channel moves that was supposed to be technically random and non-preferencial, but the result certainly was not random as larger markets appear to have been favored in some way in the algorithm. As a result too, DC is going to wait longer for full market NextGen TV. WIAV is a good start and has a much better than typical Class A power, but it’s hardly a full market signal and on a rather short tower. NextGen TV in Baltimore will begin from a 1200+ foot antenna at a rather surprisingly low cost. I originally complained about Baltimore having to move all its TV channels, but in hindsight, they all made out like a bandit. — BaltoMedia

DC is too dangerous! LOL That is why Mike O’Meara lives there. In FLA he is surrounded by his racist golf mates for protection.

I thought we were not going to make DCRTV a Political Site. You can get that information in The Washington Post or The New York Times! Let's talk about DC Media. Have you heard any good Radio Stations in DC lately? WMAL sure took a dive in the Ratings in March. They are number 9 now with a 3.9 Share. Remember when they were Number 1?

Dave's response: Politics is OK as long as its in a media-related context.....

"Tucker's too scared to live in DC so he does his Fox News "show" from a "secret" compound in Naples, Florida, where nobody can hurt him." Gosh! Said like someone with no options. So the quality of previously recorded ‘news’ is only strained by the gentle force of temporal power, the age of the recording? Perhaps the occasional lift of a human finger could have assuaged the seeming automated downward spiral of local broadcasting and the resulting pre-recording of news in the first place? That once Federally required for licensing (union job) broadcast logging has been depopulated down to unseen computer files is the fault of deregulation, weak unions and Congress, unsurprisingly, the result of all this is reflected in the aging, lifeless air product that few watch.

The woke media just does not want you to see a 13 year old with a gun in his hand because that makes it a justified shooting and they cannot have that narrative on television or in print because you must hate all law enforcement. THIS is why we need FOX NEWS Dave and WTTG. Same with the Russian Bounty story from the NY Times, now retracted. It didn’t happen, nothing here people, didn’t affect the election, blah blah blah. The Washington Post is admitting that right here in this story, that the media doesn’t want to show this video. Chauvin deserved his verdict and got what he deserved after the video was shown, but now because its a black kid with a gun, it is irresponsible to show it on TV? www.washingtonpost.com

Dave's response: I'm kinda just joking, damn it. Can't you take a joke, Gus? Maybe Biden should make you head of the FCC. What would you do?

Prerecorded news still = news. Since you didn't specify the duration involved, your definition would change the rules categorization for newscasts that are captured and delayed for only even a few seconds in radio automation systems. Since most logging is done by said automation, human operators dont need to lift a finger -- even then, the FCC isnt as hard-ass as it was 30+ years ago when that kind if logging was required.

So criticizing The Washington Post or why WTTG FOX 5 should keep its license is no longer permitted Dave Hughes?

Dave's response: Fox News hates Biden and Murdoch also owns a batch of Fox TV stations, which are licensed by the FCC. Maybe Biden should appoint an FCC chairman bent on stripping Murdoch of his Fox TV licenses as a form of revenge. Not a sermon, just a thought.....

Actually, Univision does own one TV station in DC. That's WFDC-DT channel 14 (or 14.1, if you prefer). You may have noticed the Entravision logo on the ends of their news programs. I am happy to hear that DCRTV Dave is NOT "Gus". I think that is obvious. Dave is much smarter than Gus and does post stupid remarks about everything.

Dave's response: I think you meant "doesn't".....

[REF: Anne Kramer] Is she “leaving” wanna-be news radio1090, or did they “boot” her? My guess is, she’s teaching an Evelyn Wood Speed Reading course at the local community college. Hopefully, the station will replace her with someone who speaks TO us, not shouts AT us. Good riddance.

I used to listen to WFED before they moved to the current frequency, and I am neither a mover nor a shaker and have never worked for the federal government. But... wait for it America... I watch the news occasionally. Can I only watch the Sunday morning pundit shows if I'm a policy maker? The answer to the question "Why... need... 50,000 watts" is simply "coverage". See complaints below about AM 630. I'd say your issue is not with WFED for buying it but with whoever sold it to them. Also apparently it carries GW basketball, Naval Academy football, and the Washington Wizards, for those interested in that sort of thing. Gus on the straight and narrow

So I wanted to give WUSA credit as they are of only two local stations that have sports as part of their newscasts. Friday night, I tuned into their 11pm news. Just an hour earlier, the Wizards won in the last second of OT and the Nats had a walkoff win. The sportscast, however, only had two stories: something about the WFT (of course) and an in-depth piece on the new head coach and players for DC United. No mention of that night’s games. The sports anchor was Sharla McBride and she anchored the noon news earlier in the day so the 11pm sportscast was likely prerecorded. So much for that. I went back and watched Topper’s weather forecast and I bet it was prerecorded as well. A frost advisory was issued in the 9pm hour for the southwestern part of the viewing area. No mention of it on 9 but Amelia Draper had it on NBC4. Also, Topper never mentioned current temperatures, there were no live looks at weather cameras, and no graphics depicting current conditions (temps, satellite/radar, etc.). The whole segment was the weekend outlook, futurecast graphics, 7-day forecast, etc. It just seemed really strange. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did prerecord it and try to pass it off as live. Anyone know if this is indeed the case? At least the newscast itself was live since they showed some live shots of the peaceful protests in DC.

Dave's response: A couple hundred "movers and shakers" on Capitol Hill listen and defense/government contractors pay a pretty penny to reach them. But why do you need to put that federal news proramming on a 50,000 AM signal that can sometimes be heard in Sweden at night?

Has anyone heard when Biden is going to appoint a new Chairman of the FCC? Why has he delayed this decision?

Dave's response: Biden needs to find an FCC chair who will challenge (pull) all of Fox's broadcast TV licenses to punish Rupert Murdoch for Fox News and Tucker Carlson.....

Univision/Televisa is now the World's largest Spanish-Language Media Company with $4.8 Billion in Assets. They own 58 Radio Stations plus many Television Stations. Google has invested in this new Company. They do not own any stations in DC yet.

MASN is now streaming Nats and Orioles via Xfinity, but still no cell phone app. Picture quality looks pretty good, possibly 1080p. www.facebook.com/BaltoMedia — BaltoMedia.net

I saw the post about the Nats radio lacking coverage in Pennsylvania West Virginia and the Eastern shore and Baltimore in the past the games of aired on 1500 AM which provided a strong signal into Baltimore the Eastern shore and some of Pennsylvania and West Virginia when the Caps snd Wizard seasons are done something should be worked out to get the games back on 1500 so people in Baltimore Eastern shore and Pennsylvania can hear them again. Patrick

Dave's response: I would like to see 1500 go back to being WTOP again. If not a full 24 hour simulcast, then something like "WTOP Plus" with live sports events and overnight talk thrown in to the all-news mix. Nobody listens to 1500 now as WFED. The nichy Federal News channel should be streaming-only or put on a low-power FM or AMer. But the 50,000-watt 1500 AM signal is wasted with its current content.....

I was told that Urban One decided not to renew the WTEM deal with The Baltimore Orioles for unknown reasons. Obviously WJFK is invested in the Nats and the Orioles are not such a good team, so the Orioles were stuck with WSBN AM 630. At least the Orioles are on the radio in DC. The Nats still have no Baltimore radio affiliate, which somewhat boggles my mind. I mean, why not AM 1300 for the Nats? It’s not like there’s anything on there now that anybody listens to. The Nats have a better radio network than they used to, but they still have no affiliate on the Eastern Shore, Delaware and none in Pennsylvania or West Virginia either.

Turned on FOX5 this morning and came in the middle of Erin Como doing a segment on pole dancing . And she was participating in a pole dance exercise class. Pole dancing class??!!! Really FOX 5?

This morning on Newsradio 1090, they announced that Anne Kramer is leaving the station after 25 years. No mention of her next gig. Is she going to another station?

All this chuckling talk is making me chuckle again. You know what is REALLY chuckalicious? The people who take this website way too seriously. Only professional broadcasters can post here? First, what is, and how does one meet the requirements? Do you get a card like vaccinations? Or, a hat with the word “Press” on it? Secondly, I think of some of the things that have been done by companies and individuals in the DC broadcasting industry in the last five years (maybe ten?) and I chuckle again. What if the “Professionals” involved in this mess are the only ones allowed to post? Imagine if these professionals would post more trying to be as serious and honest as possible! We would have so many chuckles. Think about serious posts explaining corporate name changes, hiring, firings, back stabbings, etc . Knee slapping would ensue. To buffer all this hilarity, retired engineers would be mandated to post at least once a day on antenna locations and coverage maps. OOBBEE

The person who is an Orioles fan needs to subscribe to XM Radio to hear the games. I have see ads for free XM for three months Sad they had to do this to hear the games. Also sad no Nats Games this season on 1500 am... Patrick

I just caught that new Kraft "Grilled Cheese o'Clock" commercial on local TV, the one where the off-camera guy is singing, "Its time for grilled cheese" and I have to wonder: does he sing about everything? "Oh yeah I'm tak-ing a crap, and now I'm star-ting my car, and now I'm scratch-ing my nuts..." Either he lives alone or his wife is very tolerant (or stone deaf). Can't wait til that flight is over.

I wish that I could hear the Orioles Games in Northern Virginia at night. WSBN 630 AM has no signal at night in this half of the DC Market. Cumulus can solve this problem by buying a Translator or AM Station to diplex with 630 AM. Why don't you purchase WKDV 1460 AM and 97.7 FM Translator?

So what does TMOS do after failing to book a fart comic? (Don’t worry you fart fans, Bob is still in contact. Well, at least he sent another e mail) You book Nik Wallenda!!!! I don't really have a dog in the hunt. But I did see the Bongino-Rivera squabble referred to in a previous post. Seemed to me that Bongino largely kept his cool and handled it well. Geraldo, on the other hand, completely lost it and started name calling. Geraldo looked bad here, not Bongino.

Don’t bother filing a complaint against the Channel 6’s for anything. It’ll likely get thrown out like mine did. I argued that WDCN violated its license and they tossed that complaint. I also argued that WOWZ was overmodulated and twice as loud as any other station and possibly broadcasting at a higher power than licensed and the FCC said that the complaint was misfiled because it was an audio complaint. File a video complaint and that’ll get tossed too. Their lobbying group must send Hunter Biden a lot of free crack or something.

Alden already owns a good chunk of Tribune and said they already said they're not going to vote for any other offer at any price, so that’s like 25% of the votes already in Alden's favor. So Tribune knows what is most likely on odds, not on price. Alden is also a known part owner. This Swiss billionaire thing they are a bit wary of apparently. But he is a loyal Democratic donor to all the woke causes and favored politicians. So they can rebrand as The NEW WOKE Baltimore Sun!

For the record, the Gus post on Imus did make me chuckle too, but Gus still hates me too, so i’m not getting involved in his ouster one way or the other. His Baltimore Sun post was rambling beyond comprehension though. I think I was criticized, but honestly, I’m not sure. I know Gus doesn’t speak Wall Street, but neither do I.

Hey Dave, the press junkette for the new Dan Bongino replacing Rush on many radio stations isn't off to a good start. On Hannity last night Bongino and Geraldo got into a bit of a scuffle when Geraldo called Bonbozo "a punk," and a "son of a bitch." Dan was making race baiting remarks (as longtime WMAL listeners know, Dan makes race bating remarks often), and Geraldo lost it when Bonbozo said to Geraldo, " You just wanna see this country burn." (As whitney Houston would say "feel the love"). I predicted Dan would make a fool of himself on his new radio show over race issues, and it appears Dan started early.

NPR's fight to unplug the "Franken FM". NPR has taken a stand on the "Franken FM Stations". The Channel 6 LPTV Stations that never operated as Television Stations as intended. They used their audio FM Channel 87.7 FM Channel to operate as FM Radio Stations and the FCC permitted this by saying it was OK if they had some kind of picture on the screen. Another loophole provided by the FCC. Is it about institutional racism because NPR only wants listeners who think like them and act like them on their end of the dial?

Day after day after day. ATSC 3.0/NextGen, Ch 6/LPTV, TMOS/and/or Imus, and the daily Gus BS. Gus, you’re full of more BS than O’Reilly and Hannity combined. How ‘bout a one week moratorium on these topics, Dave?

The owner of DCRTV still permits "Gus" to comment on intelligent and serious postings. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, when Gus tries to make fun of serious postings they should not be posted. He has NO EXPERIENCE in Broadcasting. RE: Max Critic/Tower Heights. We’re not talking Oklahoma here or even west coast. We’re talking Philadelphia, Richmond, Baltimore, Norfolk. Name any large east coast city. DC’s facilities are antiquated by comparison. Sinclair’s VP of Technology even stated so in a technical interview that a standard ATSC 3.0 rollout is simply not possible for DC. Dozens of cell phone towers are going to be used instead for the SFN. For just one instance, the Sinclair tower in Baltimore is 1500 feet above sea level, 1224' HAAT, quite a bit taller than any of DC’s towers, the tallest of which is 800' HAAT. A 900 foot AGL tower was attempted in Tenleytown years back but DC stopped it. That would have been up to today’s standards for the typical ATSC 3.0 rollout. I believe the link to the Sinclair story is already in the mailbag. The FCC standards even state 1000’ HAAT. No DC tower meets that standard. The tallest tower in the DC area is actually the WMPT tower in Crofton.

File this under "out of left field applications": WPFW is going to add HD Radio. Why even bother? None of Pacifica's other stations seem to run it, so all bets are off as to what they could put on a potential HD2, but knowing them I doubt it'll be anything useful or interesting. fcc.gov

WTH is Ch 4 using for camera people? Wednesday 6:18 pm reporter Adam Tough did a story on widening the beltway. Entire time, camera was waving around zooming in and out, rocking & rolling. Franken FM.....The owners of the so called " Franken FM Stations" 87.7 FM say the FCC will give them another extension on the July 13, 2021 date for the Channel 6 LPTV Stations to go digital. They have already had a two year extension on this before. They have a very strong Lobby with the FCC. None of these licenses are owned by MINORITIES anymore. The original owners sold their licenses and walked away with a lot of money! If the FCC does keep delaying this ACTION, all of these licenses should be challenged at this time. There are 28 Licenses that should be up for grabs by Minorities. In all fairness, a new group of Minorities should be able to traffic with these licenses. WHY were these licenses granted in the first place? At the time the licenses were awarded, the FCC stated that it was to give Minorities the opportunity to get into Television Ownership. Very few Minorities own Television Stations today! FCC please don't make the same mistake again!

Gus made me chuckle. OOBBEE

Here is something no one ever thinks about. Was the FCC repack profitable or not and who profited and who not? The FCC sold the TV channels 38-59 for 5G use among other things. So I often glance at these FCC 399 forms just for fun and Hearst is requesting $600,000 basically because all the FMs on the candelabra tower in Baltimore had to be moved in some way as part of the channel changes that required all new antennas (some of them were on the TV antennas) so they bought an all new FM antenna stack too, and now Baltimore has an Empire State Building type FM stack, very costly I might add, but all at government expense due to the repack rules. I’m not saying that Hearst is not entitled to the money or that it won’t help FM signals around Baltimore. I’m sure it's a good thing for listeners. If anything Baltimore will be once again, so much more modern than DC’s TV/radio infrastructure. DC’s stations were largely not affected by this as very few TV stations in DC had to move on any tower to a new channel (obviously preferential FCC treatment), I assume due to technical reasons since all the towers are ancient, short and not easily upgraded. So in DC it’s nowhere near the advancement of the Empire type FM stack in Baltimore as someone told me. I think it’s ironic that DC itself is so ancient in technology compared to a much smaller city as Baltimore. So was the repack profitable? For Hearst, I imagine absolutely. They got all their tech upgraded for FREE! And certainly Baltimore greatly benefited technology wise, but DC is still stuck with all the old smaller non-guy wired towers, not very suitable for NextGen TV. I know this from an interview with the Senior VP of Technology at Sinclair, who basically said that none of the ATSC 3.0 rules used in other markets will ultimately work in DC requiring a cell phone tower SFN strategy. Does anyone know if the FCC made any money though? It is after all your money. Hearst certainly got a lot of it. Shouldn’t you wonder why and how?

Hey Dave, as you know, the Republican National Committee last fall had on their donation webpage a prechecked box saying, "make this a recurring donation," using a light text, or on printers term, a "screen over the text." Literally, tens of thousands of Trump supporters did not uncheck this box when making what they thought would be a one time donation, and we're charged several times their donation. If you donated $200.00, the RNC charged you credit card or withdrew from you bank account $1,800.00 over a six week period. WMAL finally, inadvertently, addressed this issue this morning. While talking about the J&J vaccine, Mary Walters said people "don't read what is in front of them," and as an example, some are "too stupid" to check or uncheck a box on a webpage, and they deserved what they got. Mary just called tens of thousands of Trump donors "stupid." Got it, Mary, we can agree on that.

NEWS! Don Farmer, husband of former WJLA-TV anchor Chris Curle, has died... From deadline.com: Don Farmer, who was one of the original anchors on CNN at its launch in 1980 after a long career as a correspondent for ABC News, died Wednesday in Naples, FL. He was 82. Farmer’s wife, Chris Curle, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he died from complications related to progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare neurological brain disorder. “Dad stayed curious and engaged nearly to the very end,” his son, Justin Farmer, an anchor at WSB-TV Atlanta, wrote on Facebook. “He was born with an abundance of curiosity, integrity and wit.” Following his time at CNN, Farmer also worked at WSB-TV, anchoring the news alongside Monica Pearson for 10 years starting in 1987... At age 26, Farmer was hired by ABC News to serve as a correspondent, and on his fifth day on the job, he was sent to Alabama to cover civil rights demonstrations. He went on to cover the movement and then some of the most turbulent moments of the 1960s, including the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. During that time, he interviewed King as well as all four Beatles. He met Curle when she was working as a reporter for an ABC station in Houston, and he was ABC News’ Southern bureau chief in Atlanta. They both had been covering the civil unrest involving the Houston school district and married two years later. He then went on to serve as a correspondent for ABC News in London and later Germany, where he was bureau chief and international correspondent, sent off to hotspots in the Middle East, Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries. The network later moved Farmer to Washington, D.C. to cover Congress, while Curle anchored at the ABC affiliate. When Ted Turner launched CNN, he hired Farmer and Curle, and they anchored a two-hour daily newscast called Take Two. Their time at the network included a week of anchoring live from Cuba. They retired in 1997 but worked part-time as newspaper columnists and radio hosts. Farmer also wrote two novels, which were thrillers set in the TV news business...

I can’t confirm this for sure but it looks like Angie Goff lucked out with her schedule as she appears to be working a Sue Palka workweek (every Friday off). I’ve tuned in on a few random Fridays at 10 and always see someone else with Jim Lokay, who obviously drew the short straw. Over at NBC4, someone asked if they’re the only station with talent still broadcasting from home. It’s primarily Doug Kammerer and some of their reporters, though sometimes the main anchors do short segments from home while someone else takes their spot on the set. They always have one or two anchors on set (depending on the particular newscast) and every weather anchor other than Doug is pretty much in the studio all the time. Three weeks ago he was home all week, then off all spring break week (while Amelia Draper filled in in the studio) and then working from home again this past week. He loves mentioning he’s in Bethesda so he’s not that far from the station - just go in like your colleagues. Maybe they’re on a rotating schedule but he seems to be home way more often than anyone else. Over at ABC — I mean 7News — I don’t think Alison Starling has been in the building at all in the last 13 months, nor have any of their weather people except Steve Rudin. Back to NBC4, Doreen is the last one standing from the dominant dream team days (with Jim Vance, Bob Ryan and George Michael) so I wonder if she’s scaling back. Perhaps bringing in Shawn Yancy was a move designed to push her out sooner rather than later. Who knows...

When will Biden appoint a new Chairman of the FCC? They need a leader who will take a stand on the Fake TV Stations. The 28 Channel 6 LPTV Stations have asked for another extension on the July 13, 2021 date to go Digital and become real Television Stations. They were told two years ago they must go Digital and they asked for an extension and received it. They don't want to go Digital because they are making more money operating as FM Radio Stations using their 87.7 FM Audio Channel rather than operating as Television Stations as intended. This group of stations has a very strong lobbyist. Since they have had two years notice, if they don't want to go Digital now they should turn in their license and let other Minorities apply for them so that they can expand Minority ownership in Television.

RE: [WDVM]… The FCC needs to reject this madness and WMJF in Baltimore should apply for a stronger signal (different directional pattern) to protect itself from this incursion as a chess move in this nonsense. This is not the original cut off date so all of these people had nearly 2 years notice on what they were required to do so the FCC really needs to dismiss these extension requests. One of those is affecting WBOC-LD on the shore with an adjacent channel protection for a station that has never been on the air for quite a long time. It’s about time the FCC pull the trigger on these ghost applications, construction permits and fake TV stations.

Something is up at JFK with the Junks. During the live FB thing today, EB said they will clarify what is going on with Valdez and Drab on Monday.

So Bish gets a big thing going between SVP and Feinstein due to a twitter post that was supposed to be private today by mistake. (Or, not?) They bring on Sheehan, SVP’s best bud late after promising a 9:00 am start. (Great get Drab! He went across studios while live to set it up) It was really a very good DC sports radio smash up. BUT!!! They cut Kevin short as the show ended. Extend into the next show!!! God, knows they need the introduction/handoff. Anytime the good, remaining sports talent in the market can mix, please let it happen. It was great when Kevin and Czabe decided to cross pollinate their podcasts. Those shows are must listen. Throw Andy on either and it still works. Shit, I miss Rooster and Pete on Sports doing drop ins on the Junks. I know they could use the exposure. Listening CK? I would even go for Ant Man wearing a rooster’s head while doing a BMI on chicken nuggets on Chad’s how. OOBBEE

It seems to me (and of course I know nothing about broadcasting, bitches) that the Junkies were much better suited to evening hours. And they've had a good long run. Hope they planned for retirement because they're next. I'm not advocating canning them but radio management ... just ... might. Gus you heard it hear first Junkies cancelled

I agree with the sentiments expressed. The line up is weak. The Junkies are more a "guy talk" show than a good sports show. The producers are surprisingly good as personalities. I miss "Mike and Mike".

[RE the PR FREELOADER post:] I feel a need to defend myself here Dave. #1 I have donated to DCRTV Dave several times in the past, but not since COVID. #2 I send a lot of the info here too, especially technical things, maybe 2-3 things a day, half of which are untagged as me. #3 I make no money from BaltoMedia, don’t even accept donations, so who is really the FREELOADER? For instance, I talked to Ted Venetoulis directly about the various Sun purchase proposals over many months. Dave used to famously bitch and rightly so about The Post stealing his stories so I know how that works. I talked directly to Sinclair too about ATSC 3.0 just to know what’s going on from their perspective, not because I support them politically, but because I know that if DC wants 4K OTA TV, you’re going to have to play well in the Sinclair schoolyard as there is no other choice as a result of the repack for 5G service and lack of available TV channels in this area. #4 With Dave in Georgia, I actually thought I was helping Dave out as I am in the state with access to most of the TV channels, so yes, I have broken some stories here and I rarely bitch at Dave about him just posting it as news since its already on BaltoMedia. #5 If you think I am stealing info on DCRTV to make money, you are sorely mistaken. I know Dave doesn’t steal anything from me either because I normally send him most things I find unless I forget or I am busy like I did today with the recent battle between Sinclair & the FCC with Baltimore’s ATSC 3.0 rollout delays and previously when I was talking directly to Mary Bubala about her WJZ TV firing and eventual hiring by WBFF. Finally, Dave Hughes mostly knows all the people I talk to or get info from, so if he didn’t want to post something, he always has that option and sometimes, if it’s a story he already knows about, he just removes BaltoMedia from the post.

Dave's response: Can't we all just get along?

What’s up with JFK this week? As usual, the stream does not work on my I phone to start the day; So much for getting ratings for the Junks outside a radio. CBS or Entercom or Audacy does not matter. Change the lipstick and the pig doesn’t change. This week producers are coming and going. LandPhil was even on one morning. Anyone know about this? Also, JP was gone some last week (One day with the flu?) and now again all week. I don’t remember if a reason was given. I listened to the part I missed this morning NOT listening to the stream later and there was no mention of JP to start. Usually when one is missing, it is mentioned. One thing is for certain, at 9:55 AM JFK is off for the rest of the day. I can’t wait to start seeing ratings.

The reason for the delay in Baltimore's NextGen TV rollout appears to be a combination of the FCC's arcane rules and Sinclair's application, which they wanted expedited as happened for WIAV 58 in DC. But you see, it cannot be expedited because WMPT 22's signal from Crofton does not completely replicate WNUV's current signal up to 95% of current viewers. That's why Sinclair's application included WMPB 67 to cover those lost in the tower move, but that doesn't fit the FCC's standard arcane rules, so more government employees are required to look at it for a couple months. With the FCC working from home, and various other FCC issues due to COVID, the FCC is holding up both Baltimore and San Antonio on NextGen TV. Some say this is just typical Sinclair shenanigans. but I'd say that this particular odd sharing arrangement became more necessary when CBS's WJZ 13 refused to participate in the deal forcing WNUV to rely on Maryland Public Television. Sinclair cannot downgrade the current resolution for existing viewers without ATSC 3.0 TVs. Now why haven’t any other DC TV station jumped to NextGen TV yet on WIAV? Well, that’s most likely strictly politics among the other stations. WIAV 58 is now just in testing mode. Obviously WJLA 7 will be added very soon, but it’s unclear what others will jump on board, but Nexstar’s WDCW 50 and Tegna’s WUSA 9 are most likely since the companies already have deals in place in other markets. —BaltoMedia.net

Re Iceland VS Ireland: when your head is focused on the upcoming break (and a chance to check your Twitter), and there *may* be a typo in the prompter script, it is really easy to slip up.

It would not surprise me if Lokay called Goff "babe" while handing it back. But, make no mistake, she probably instructed him to do so. Goff, charitably described as having a voice like "hacksaw on sheet metal," has been struggling against the dreaded age-out, after she failed the audition on the Today Show, and bounced around in local with her self-promotion campaign. It ain't me, babe.

What's up with WMAL News? Over the weekend the New York Times reported the RNC deceived doners who contributed to Trump's campaign in 2020 by prechecking boxes on its donation webpage saying to make this a recurring donation. If you donated $200.00 and did not uncheck boxes, the RNC took as much as $1800.00 out of you bank account or charged to your credit card over the next six weeks. This is fraud. After the NYT reported this deception, which led to over one million in il gotten gains, the RNCC did the same thing starting Tuesday on their donation webpage. Since WMAL targets Republicans who don't read the NYT, you would think they would care about their listeners enough to report to them this news and to be aware they need to UNCHECK THE BOXES if you are making a donation and don't want it recurring. As John Belushi said, " But Noooo!"

Not only have I heard anchors misquote facts or locations, but the closed captioning is FULL of errors. I’m guessing that it’s voice activated & can’t always accurately interpret what’s being said. And as one who routinely uses CC due to my hearing not being great, I find myself asking “did they REALLY say that?” only to find out when I ask a friend who may be watching with me, tell me no.

Re: the FOX5 anchor saying a volcano was in Ireland vs. Iceland, I’ve seen on more than one occasion anchors giving out erroneous info. They pretty much read whatever’s on the teleprompter. Every now & then I’ve noticed that the more seasoned anchors will notice the error & correct it themselves. Other than that, most anchors seem to just be news readers.

So, is WCBM trying to market Derek Hunter as the new solution for stations post-Rush? Ratings "kingpin?" radio-linx.com/derek-hunter

Did anyone happen to hear the end of last night’s Orioles game? The O’s win in the bottom of the 11th inning by throwing out a Yankee base runner at the plate. The female play-by-play announcer calls the play with all the enthusiasm of a funeral director. Where do they find these people? I bet “Screamin’ Scotty” over at WBAL shows more enthusiasm placing an order at the Burger King Drive-Thru. Geez. And before someone comments. I’m not complaining about it being a female voice. There are many good female play-by-play announcers out there. This one has a long way to go.

NEWS: Scripps, new owner of WPXW 66 announced that they are taking NEWSY network to free over the air TV in addition to cable. So it will likely also be on WMAR ABC 2 as well and possibly WWPX 60 in Martinsburg. Scripps is claiming it will be a totally unbiased news channel, a rare commodity today if true. It's interesting how Nexstar and Sinclair fought be the largest TV ownership group in America and traded places when Sinclair lost out on Tribune Media, but Scripps ended up with TV stations in all the largest markets flying under the stormy radar while no one was watching the other big hen house. www.tvtechnology.com —BaltoMedia.net

Wednesday morning just before 10:00 AM, one of the Fox 5 morning news women teased about a piece coming up after the break about new heavy eruptions from a volcano in "Ireland." Really, Ireland? When they ran the piece, they identified the volcano being in Iceland. That makes more sense, it has been in the news for weeks. It got me thinking, even though Iceland and Ireland are close in spelling, I can't remember anytime someone reading "Iceland," and comprehend "Ireland." It reminded me of the time Sarah Palin as governor signed a letter to a Jewish community with "Molotov," and not "Mazel Tov." Close, but, like Ireland and Iceland, you really shouldn't confuse the two.

Did anyone else catch Jim Lokay call Angie Goff "babe" when he tossed back to her in the 4 o'clock newscast today? I gotta say, I like how casual local news has become over the years. Arlington Viewer

I am glad someone else around here finds the humor in the failures of TMOS. As many a D&M guest said, Mike O’Meara is funnier when he is serious just like Jerry Lewis. The laziness of TMOS is greater than any entertainment produced each day. The lack of a show last Thursday was typical. Blame Pony for technical issues. So much for the high tech Podcast Village anchor putting it all together. Blame Bob for blowing a guest booking. Oh boy, the fart comic bailed. Yes, TMOS cannot book an old fart comic. TMOS CANNOT BOOK A FART COMIC!!!! The next day, right when mike’s right arm was healing from patting himself on the back about asking his racist golf mates to tone down the use of the N word, he hurt his left arm patting himself about a 12 year old April fool’s Day bit. It was a good bit. But, as Mike explained it was all about his “Directing” 12 years ago that made it work. Once again, that AU education came through. His bits with Jennifer and Charlie were way overdue. Giving Oscar a creative nod for Charlie driving the Suez boat is so ridiculous. Listeners were screaming about it. I though Mike was being mean in calling Bob stupid lately but he may have a point. Bob seriously asked a nurse a week ago what “Triage” meant. Then, this weekend he almost spent over $1000 on eye glasses. Rube they name in Bobb with two BBs.

I also saw that Fox5 was adding a new guy to the evening broadcast which I assume will be replacing Blake McCoy. Has he left the area as I’ve heard absolutely nothing about him. Anyway, as per the new anchor, hope he’s ready to play second fiddle to Angie Goff.

Lately, since they reduced the hours of the morning show on Channel 7, it seems like it’s been more haphazard, like they’re trying to stuff all of the news into a 2 hour block. I liked Good Morning Washington more when Horace Holmes played a more prevalent role in it. Just saying….

What's up with WMAL News? I listened to their 8:00 AM newscast, and no mention of, Matt Gaetz asking Trump for a blanket pardon, Jen Psaki response to Peter Ducey on the All star Game being moved to Denver, John Boehner's colorful comments on Trump being responsible for the Capitol riot, the George Floyd murder trial-not going well for the defense, Dr. Fauci saying no new wave, the Texas voter suppression bill and companies beginning to fight back, or, McConnell's embarrassing comments about corporations should stay out of politics. They also did not cover this week Wayne LaPierre's admitting getting his whole family (and wife's hairdresser) on a 108 foot yacht and sailing to the Bahamas to "be safe" after Sandy Hook.

Sorry to hear that Gordon Smith, President of NAB, will resign at the end of this year. No reason given why he is resigning. This is a important position for Broadcasters.

I don’t believe that WBAL-TV made any announcement of Joe Krebs death, but Jayne Miller, likely the only person left to have worked with him in Baltimore at WBAL still on the air posted on Twitter of his death. — BaltoMedia.net

I love to watch real LPTV when there is television to "watch". However, the Channel 6 LPTV Stations all became "the Franken" Stations. What are they? When these licenses were awarded, the FCC wanted more Diversity in Television Ownership. If you were in broadcasting at the time you will remember it. The licenses were awarded to Minorities. The new owners soon realized that they could use their audio Channel 87.7 FM and operate as an FM Radio Station. This was a great way to obtain an FM Station in the Top Ten Markets at a low cost. Next comes the Big Sell Off. Most of the owners sold off these licenses at very large prices. Today, none of these original licenses are owned by Minorities. Later the FCC told these operators that if they put any kind of picture on the screen it was OK. Now the FCC says they must go digital by July 13, 2021. None of them want to go digital and are asking for another "extension" this is just a way to stall! They are making too much money operating as FM Radio Stations! If they don't want to operate as real Television Stations as intended require them to turn in their license. There are 28 of these so called "Franken" LPTV Stations.

"Also the person claiming he can beat any Paywall is full of shit, plain and simple. Last Friday, WJLA-TV changed its branding from ABC7 to the universal 7News branding. And so far, the station has been getting very, very negative feedback. Last fall as you may recall, WJLA-TV trimmed its morning newscast, formerly "Good Morning Washington," from 2 hours 35 minutes, to just 2 hours & is now the only morning newscast among the 4 major networks here in the DC market to start at 5am.

It appears as if the FCC’s LMS system is broken again and there is no one home to fix it with nearly everyone working from home. WIAV 58’s application was approved for ATSC 3.0/NextGen TV, but now it’s pending even though it was granted and they are already on the air. I was told it’s an LMS glitch, but other FCC actions appear to have stalled too as all of Baltimore’s NextGen applications appear to just be sitting collecting dust and no decision has been made on the Channel 6’s again too as well as the tons of LPTV extension requests to get on the air by July 13, some of which have been lingering around for over a decade not being on the air! Some of these ghost LPTVS affected the repack and current applications, but only as long as the FCC lets the cobwebs linger, which in government speak appears to be forever. Also the person claiming he can beat any Paywall is full of shit, plain and simple. If a newspaper requires you to log in and accept cookies showing you paid them, there is no private browsing option PERIOD. Anyone who says differently is simply full of shit unless he’s an actual criminal hacker. The problem with this policy is that even paying customers don’t like to be tracked and hassled. Tribune is the worst at this, all of their newspapers, not just The Sun. The only good thing I can say about Jeff Bezos is that he does allow private browsing to avoid The Post’s paywall. But then again, he bought The Post for political reasons, not to make money so he really doesn’t much care too much.

NEWS! I'm hearing the sad news that longtime NBC4 morning news anchor Joe Krebs has passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Like the ongoing Florida toxic wastewater plant leak, that Podcast out of DC has hit the 'jump the shark' programming sewage trifecta that will continue to cause listener seepage. I am hearing the DC iHeart music stations start out hours by saying (paraphrasing here) "portions of today's broadcast are prerecorded." Is this finally an admission that they are voice-tracking? If so, that took long enough -- VTing has been around twenty years now, in a practical functional sense.

NEWS! The battle for Tribune: Inside the campaign to find new owners for a legendary group of newspapers... www.washingtonpost.com... Last year, as a group of Baltimore Sun reporters embarked on a long-shot endeavor to find a new owner that could save their paper from a hedge-fund takeover, a former Maryland politician gave them a piece of advice. Treat this like a political campaign. The worried reporters would need to recruit community allies. Hire a public relations firm to sway public opinion. And most crucially: Figure out how to find rich people who might be persuaded to finance a rescue plan. That meeting over coffee with Ted Venetoulis — a former Baltimore County executive who unofficially advised Maryland’s largest private foundation — launched what would become the Save Our Sun campaign. It would eventually inspire a national effort to keep nearly a dozen newspapers owned by the same chain from being bought by Alden Global Capital, a hedge fund with a singular reputation for gutting newsrooms. Now, a coalition of wealthy business executives has put together an 11th-hour offer to buy not just the Baltimore Sun but the entire Tribune Publishing chain that a special committee of the Tribune’s board said Monday “would reasonably be expected” to beat out Alden’s offer. The all-cash proposal from Stewart Bainum Jr., chairman of Maryland-based Choice Hotels International, and Wyoming-based Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss, is valued at $680 million, about $50 million more than Alden has proposed paying. The duo then plans to sell many of the individual papers to local owners. Bainum is primarily interested in the Baltimore Sun, where he has told associates he wants to expand the newsroom. Wyss has told colleagues he plans to invest in the Chicago Tribune, according to an executive who is familiar with the discussions...

Alright, let's walk through this. The Baltimore Sun is colluding to hide corruption by PUBLISHING STORIES ABOUT IT IN THE NEWSPAPER? And McDonald's is covering up the murder of millions of cows by disposing of the evidence piece by delicious piece. Gus shfh

The Baltimore Sun Paywall issue, yep again. Noticed something else. The Paywall can be used for political purposes. Case in point Today’s story about Baltimore City corruption and the Mosby family is TOTALLY BLOCKED, so the majority of Baltimoreans cannot read about any city corruption. There needs to be an investigation into how they determine what stories they are going to block to ANYONE! I believe The Sun is as crooked as the politicians they are barely investigating. It looks like they’re hiding corruption but the bad management that runs The Sun simply does not get that at all. Everything today is agenda driven, sometimes even moreso than money driven. Look at Jack Dorsey of Twitter. He couldn’t give a rats ass how many people he loses from what he does. It’s a drop in the bucket to support a political agenda when you’re a multi-billiionaire. Orwell’s 1984 is really here people. Wake up and smell the coffee. it’s not so good and the mainstream media and even local news just do not care or they think they are bigger than it all. I’m not sure witch one, but neither are good.

Well, as per Shawn Yancey’s FB page, it looks like former Fox5 reporter Paul Wagner will be going to NBC4.

Is local news even allowed here anymore? This just happened in the District. A Louis Farrakhan & Nation of Islam supporter killed the Capitol Police officer in a racist terrorist attack, but no news source will tell you this, not WTOP or WAMU or even WBAL radio or NBC News, with a bureau and TV station in DC! But no, he didn’t have an AR-15 or connected to Qanon, so it’s not news, just like the continued violence and fires in Portland and Seattle continue. People largely pay less attention to the national news media these days with their poll numbers at around 13%, lowest of anything, but local media is largely accepted as being more truthful. When the local media starts lying to the public or hiding facts, then we have REAL unsolvable problems. Why does no one want to talk about this? Because it doesn’t fit the planned narrative? heavy.com

[Re: Mark Kaye replacing Rush] Dan BingoBanjo is replacing Rush on a lot of Cumulus stations, including WMAL, but other affiliates are going with other options. Someone noted here that Baltimore will have local host. There will not be one single replacement. It’ll be interesting to see where Mark Kaye airs. On another note, ABC7 News is now branded as 7News and they’re pushing the On Your Side slogan. The logo has been tweaked - it’s still the ABC logo joined with the Circle 7 but the ABC logo is flush with the lower end rather than vertically centered.

Today the Baltimore Sun Editorial staff wrote an editorial to promote the idea of bringing the All Star Game to a woke and social justice oriented city, whatever that is, but my favorite comment on Facebook about it was this, “The Sun staff better polish up their resumes and either start building wind turbines or learn to code because that failure of a newspaper is going to go down in flames."

From the FCC website discussion of LPTV: "The Low Power Television Service (LPTV) was established by the Federal Communication Commission in 1982. It was primarily intended to provide opportunities for locally-oriented television service in small communities, both rural and individual, within larger urban areas. LPTV presents a less expensive and very flexible way of delivering programming tailored to the interests of viewers in small localized areas, providing a means of local self-expression. In addition, LPTV has created abundant opportunities for new entry into television broadcasting and has permitted fuller use of the broadcast spectrum. The LPTV branch also is responsible for processing applications for Television Translator stations. TV Translator stations are stations in the broadcast service operated for the purpose of retransmitting the programs and signals of a TV broadcast station." Minority ownership would certainly be consistent with that stated purpose but it would not be the only use of the spectrum that would fall under that description. Draw your own conclusions about all of this anti "Franken FM" posting. I have drawn mine.

[If true, for a show that runs out of a company built for podcasts there sure are a ton of technical difficulties.] Two, Santana always touts "redundancy." When a piece of equipment goes down, we have a backup. Three, strange that O'Meara's post wasn't supported by TMOS social media. Crickets. Four, did O'Meara wrongly throw Podcast Village under the technical bus to cover his personal failure in not recording a show? Five, how much longer can Spewak, Santana et al, take O'Meara's bull-shit? Six, Gus, is a hangover a "equipment malfunction?" #SupportDCRTV

It’s probably nothing, but I’m curious about something? After Friday, is Good Morning Washington going to be no more on WJLA channel 7? I heard an ad for something, and they said “Monday on Seven News At 6 AM, followed by Good Morning America”. They’d normally say “Monday on Good Morning Washington, followed by Good Morning America”. Moop

s WJLA rebranding? Their Facebook page was titled ABC7 News - WJLA but it’s now 7 News DC. I would guess that, if they indeed are, it’s a feeble attempt to boost their struggling ratings. As the old saying goes, you can put lipstick on a pig...

Heres something that sounds like an April Fools headline but well nah, I’ll just tell it first. Boardwalk Jesus of Ocean City, MD fame has disappeared on Holy Thursday. In fact, he’s not been seen in nearly 2 weeks, not the cross, the bike or the fabulous LED lights praising the Lord up and down the Boardwalk. I figure if he doesn’t show up on the cross tomorrow, it’s time to call the police. No way Boardwalk Jesus misses Easter! And his carpentry sawhorse outside is missing too. Hmm. The problem with the April Fools joke is that he really is kind of missing and no one in the neighborhood seems to know anything. And yes, he IS a REAL carpenter as well. Sometimes truth is just simply stranger than fiction. LOL

WJLA renamed there Facebook page to 7NEWSDC and the call letters has disappeared on the webpage. Are they finally renaming the call letters? Michael

"Gus, how many experienced Broadcasters do you know working at the FCC? Please get a life." Said the pot by which I mean a dog with a boner trying to Red Rocket a kettle. Jeez, what is with you? Don't start none, won't be none. If your case of can't-get-past-the-callscreener-itis lasts more than four hours you should, no, you WILL post again on this topic. Gus at Chateau Relax-O

Just for kicks and giggles, I sent this email to Patricia Lane, CEO of Marquee Broadcasting. I do not expect a response either way. I thought to myself. Well, it might even be their church and they just didn’t bother to look at it well, trusting on faith for lack of interference. Let’s see what happens. Dear WMDT, I saw this online in FCC records and wondered why WMDT would allow this much interference to its signal from W29FM-D LPTV? Residents in southern Delaware and Maryland’s mid-shore will likely have trouble receiving 47abc if this is built as proposed. It appears as if an Interference agreement has been signed that allows this? I asked someone I know at the FCC too and he seemed perplexed himself. www.rabbitears.info

NO JOKE. It appears that on this April 1st, TMOS didn't do a live show nor bother to post a 'Best Of' or post a message on their social media platforms? #HobbyNotABusiness

C’mon, Dave. You could have done better than that. Like saying you were going to put little Gus-Gus in “Time Out” for the next 7-days.

Alpha Media reports that they have spent $921,000 on professional fees associated with going into Bankruptcy. They declared Bankruptcy in February 2021 and have $267 Million in debt.

Gus, how many experienced Broadcasters do you know working at the FCC? Please get a life. You like to comment on every posting and you are wrong most of the time. This is a free country so you can give your opinion. We know you are qualified because you listen to the radio and watch TV. DCRTV is a good site but you are turning readers away with your stupid comments.

The WDMV situation must have been temporary. I hear Spanish music again on 700 kHz at 11:45 AM. The old man must still be pissed at Junior, though: the corporate website still carries big red text saying, "Several people imposed fraud on courts in Virginia and Maryland using my company." You would think after a decade or more, all of that would have settled out or at least the webmaster would have edited the page.

I'm trying to figure out the logic of why Newsradio 1090 puts its financial guy on live for a 5-minute gabfest with C4 and Bryan Nehman only to end the interview, go to a commercial and then come back to a pre-recorded segment with the same financial guy. Do the people who run that station ever listen to it?

"The original purpose of awarding these [LPTV] licenses was to get Minorities into Television Ownership." I'd like to see someone document that instead of repeatedly shouting it. If provably true, then LPTV would be the Colored Car of the electronic media railroad. There is an FCC document on this but I'm not posting links these days. My reading of it is they were looking to create a Brocket 99 situation. Robert Johnson of BET, billionaire. Oprah Winfrey, billionaire. Kanye, billionaire. Even under Bwana FCC's benevolent rule it seems they have not chosen to acquire TV stations. Gus in his Gordon jumpsuit at the Tube Bar

Ah, the G. Gordon Liddy memories. I’ll never forget the time I was listening on WCBM 680 and some elderly woman, 80something, called in asking how she could defend herself if her house was broken into without her having a gun or any weapons in the house. He went on to then instruct her politely and in a detailed manner how to kill an attacker with just a #2 pencil. I know he was dead serious, but I simply could not stop laughing. To this day, that’s the only reason I keep a #2 pencil on my desk.

Just watching the speed of the NextGen TV application approvals, it makes one wonder if the Biden Administration is holding up some of Sinclair’s ATSC 3.0 applications, especially in Baltimore, their HQ market. Someone told me it’s just all technical mistakes in their applications, but either way kind of ticky tack it seems. Could it just be retribution from the Biden Administration being sent down to low level FCC bureaucrats to dish out some deserved retribution? Ponderous. That is generally how the government works in general, not in the past as much, but certainly in these days. God knows Trump did it, so why wouldn’t Biden partisans in the FCC do the same knowing they could get away with it easily?

Just for kicks and giggles, sure there are African American owned TV station groups! How dare you question the FCC’s definition of that? There’s Armstrong William’s Howard Stirk Holdings (WXBU Lancaster, PA) and Cunningham Broadcasting, owner of Baltimore’s WNUV CW 54 and many other TV stations even though he’s long since dead and controlled by a dead white privileged woman! And then there’s Byron Allen too. Does he even qualify as black anymore? So watchu talkin ‘bout Willis? Yes, government is always the joke. Even when it has a good idea, it still manages to screw it up.
