Double-D is back in DC, eh? Cool. He and I split studio time in Harrisburg PA a dozen years ago and I've always been amazed at the sounds he pulled out of a pair of ratty old Otari reel machines way back then. In the digital domain, he's gotta be a demon. Welcome back, Don. - Al Peterson, A.C.E., Radio America Network (12/7/06)

KOF: Are you talking about WKAQ, the salsa station or the news talk station out of San Juan? WKAQ owns both, and I do believe they have the same call letters, except that the salsa music one normally goes by with "La K-Q". -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/7/06)

Dave's response: Just for you, Silvie - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WKAQ-TV.....

Dave... Your front page blurb about the possible 3-way swap is interesting, but way off base on the potential outcome. Without indulging in needess hystrionics, here is how I see all of this working out: Bonneville: 105.1 - WTOP, 103.5 - WGMS, 820 - WTOP, 1500 - Washington Post Radio, 1050 - Federal News Radio..... Red Zebra: 104.1 - WXTR, 103.9 - WXTR, 94.3 - WXTR, 730 - WXTR..... Salem: 107.7 - WAVA, 92.7 - WAVA, 780 - WABS..... As a betting woman who has worked sales and programming at more than a few stations here in D.C., this is how I see things happening. It would NOT make sense to put Wasington Post Radio on 105.1; they can fulfill their contractual arrangements to the Post on 1500. And they can put the Nationals on 103.5 without harming WGMS appreciably. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. I think Friday will be a very interesting day. - Call Me 'Legs' (12/7/06)

Dave's response: Might we get the WXTR calls returned to 104.1 via Red Zebra? That would be very interesting. I can't see Bonneville moving WTOP from 103.5, now that it's been firmly planted there. If anything, I think Bonneville might try to get a better FM signal for Washington Post Radio and that could happen via some sort of swap involving Salem's 105.1.....

Sorry, "John," (Mike Michaels' real name)... although Mike/John and I were friends from WEAM, he had left the building ("With Penthouse Studios in the Hotel Borinquen") by the time I arrived. Ed. Rodriguez (12/7/06)

Clay Anderson is on News Channel 8. Looking good! (12/7/06)

Dave, I don't think the FCC is in the pockets of Big Radio... I think they've been focusing their attention on wireless and spectrum issues, rather than broadcasting. -- I hope WGMS stays on the air somehow. GAB in the Airless Cubicle (12/7/06)

Dave, if the WGMS deal happens could anyone but Joel Oxley be DCRTV's Person of the Year for 2006? Agree with the moves Bonnevile has made or not, nobody has affected the DC media landscape this year more than Mr. Oxley. In fact, I don't think any one person has changed the media landscape of this town more in any 12 month period EVER except perhaps Stern. (12/7/06)

Dave's response: There definitely won't be any more "DCRTV Person Of The Year" selections for this year or any other year considering the huge error regarding last year's screwballed nomination. Never ever again.....

Doesn't it make more sense to put the talk formats on AM and the music formats on FM? This three way deal would make sense: Bonneville gets: 105.1 (puts WGMS on it). Red Zebra gets: 1500 and 107.7 (puts XXX ESPN Radio on both). Salem gets: 94.3 , 92.7, 730, 103.9 and 104.1). And some cash changes hands somewhere (probably from Red Zebra to Bonneville) to make it all even. Salem basically turns one monster signal into three or four lesser stations: the 94.3/92.7 simulcast, the 103.9/104.1 simulcast, 730 AM and 780 AM. For programming, it has what's currently on WAVA AM and FM, their "fish" Christian Music format, and their news/talk lineup that's currently not cleared in Washington (Bill Bennett, Mike Gallagher, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, and Hugh Hewitt). -Ari (12/7/06)

Dave's response: The "problem" is that Bonneville is committed to WaPo Radio for another three years. So, it looks like that's what 105.1 could become. Whoops, no room for WGMS, unless maybe B'ville could squeeze it in on 1050 or Frederick's 820. Or possibly make it HD Radio-only via 103.5's digital output.....

I would like to see our government take back ALL broadcast frequencies through eminent domain and reallocate them exclusively to true non-profits (no commercials) with an emphasis on variety and diversity. A pipe dream of course but MORE likely than Pacifica selling off WPFW. The guy who suggested that couldn't be less knowledgeable about the Pacifica Foundation or the station. (12/7/06)

Why doesn't Bonneville buy WCSP or WPFW or WGTS and put WGMS on there? Before you think I'm an idiot, look at the WGMS-1 booster application. It says that Bonneville is a "not for profit" corporation! Sharp lawyers could arrange ownership appropriately. We all know that "noncommercial" stations can make considerable money selling enhanced underwriting. Go for it Mr. Oxley. (12/7/06)

Dave's response: I've always harbored the fantasy that XM would buy 90.1 and flip it to a relay of XMU as WXMU.....

What happens to Redskins radio in Frederick isn't the only operative question in any potential radio shakeup. There are at least four other sports teams that could have their local radio impacted if rumor becomes reality, George Washington and George Mason men's basketball, Navy football and the Washington Nationals. Would the teams' radio rights follow the station owners to new frequencies or stay with the frequencies under new owners? Everett W. (12/7/06)

IF BONNEVILLE RADIO AND SALEM AND RED ZEBRA FLIP FORMATS, THEN WHY ARENT THE REDSKINS ON 1500 AM AND 107.7 FM, EVEN IF ITS GOING TO BE A POSSIBLE CHURCH STATION, BECAUSE THE SIGNAL REACHES OTHER STATES SURROUNDING WASHINGTON, DC OR SHOULD I ASK BENNET ZIER? (12/7/06)

Bill Smith asked "Will Bowman's Body ever be a guest on Count Gore's webcast?" The answer is a resounding "Yes"... as in *right now* On The Rack: www.countgore.com (12/7/06)

From time to time I've caught WKAQ from San Juan sneaking in at 580 kHz here in the D.C. area. "Dub-le-vay KAH AH KOOOOO" was their ID jingle for many years going back to at least the early '70s. If you're on the coast, say the Outer Banks, it blasts in loud and clear sometimes after dark -- no land in between to absorb its nightly bounce. KOF (12/7/06)

Amazing, a format that pulls a great share, and nobody wants to figure out how to sell it OR fundraise around it. If the WGMS sale goes through, I sincerely hope WETA will stop aping WAMU and go back to classical. Think about it, no competition on a format that used to pull in a combined 8 share, and still pulls in a 4 with bad coverage and no commercial free alternative... I'd much rather hear that than those herky jerky production pieces that litter NPR shows on 90.9, and the staff could stop pretending they're classical announcers who also just happen to be able to produce features. I hate it when mailbaggers talk about all the folks they'd like to see fired from the industry because I work in it, but the WETA board should seriously look at the performance of GM Dan Devany if he doesn't take advantage of this. (12/7/06)

I see the sale of 104.1 as one of the few positive moves in local radio this year. The content of Zebra is pretty good and very local. The current content of 104.1 is no different than buying Cds or standing in an elevator. It would be nice to actually hear the Redskins. This would be a sincere move by Dan Snyder to serve his community. It would also be great to get a frequency out of the clutches of Bonneville. Despite all of their talk, they don't don't really do anything positive for the D.C. metro area. (12/7/06)

Wasn't Ed Rodriguez part of Mike Michaels' boys' club at WBMJ in San Juan in the early-'70s? Just wondering. - John Galanses (12/7/06)

WOW, I can't help but comment. First the Mormons lay off the entire WGMS staff causing them to lose benefits like vacations etc.... then, they re-hire some to a losing battle on a pathetic signal and now these people all lose their jobs again??? What a great plan by management. Took TOP on the AM and replaced it with a .7 share WTWP. I wonder if Mr. Oxley drives home at night and wonders...What did I do?"........... (12/7/06)

can you please email photos of lisa scoon. I am a relative of hers. (12/7/06)

Dumbarse Bill Smith here, apparently Donnie G. was right and the majority of lisseners to his show are morons. Did you check out the Mike O'Meara my space?......I thought Coulter and Anita Marks and Jamie Lee Curtis all shared that thing. Now what was that called Donnie G.?.....no sleep till brooklyn (12/7/06)

I wonder what Clear Channel's WFRE is thinking about this as they currently have the Skins Contract for Mid MD? (12/7/06)

RE: [Do you REALLY not understand why there is a big difference between a black person using the N word, and a white person using it? If you really don't get it, the answer to this is historical context. The reason white people can't and shouldn't use the N word is because of the long history of white people's use of that word. The history of black use of the word is pretty different, for obvious reasons.]........ I've heard a million polack jokes in my lifetime, plenty of them on TV shows like All in the Family and it never really bothered me much, even thought some of them were funny. I once got a job solely because the human resourses person thought I was a Russian immigrant instead of Polish after a previous interview with a different person where I identified myself as being Polish didn't go so well. But then again Polish people like me were never enslaved, well except during WWI and WWII, but that wasn't in the U.S. and no one in my family has any recollection of it. But then again, no black person alive today was ever enslaved either or has a recollection of it. My opinion is it's time to get over these things and move on but I'm sure there are plenty of political reasons why that will never happen sadly. (12/7/06)

YES!! You are correct, call-letter breath. WHOA became WTSJ around 1970 or 71. I don't recall the mechanics of the breakup, but the English-language MOR station (WHOA/870) and channel 18 were co-owned at SOME point. Then, 18 was spun off. Channel 18 was only on the air from 5PM until about 10PM initially (that drove my father crazy!). And, the Mike Douglas shows that first ran on the station were a week late, sent down via parcel post or UPS. Then, at 1190, was my eventual alma mater, WBMJ, owned by Bob Hope. I used to LOVE getting request line calls from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and other islands in the Antilles on that BIG 10,000 watt stick, blasting across the blue/green waters of the Caribbean. One other bit of nuttiness: the WBMJ program director, who works in DC in a field other than broadcasting, would NOT allow me to use the name, "Ed. Rodriguez" on the air because he thought it sounded "too ethnic!" Consequently, I was Steve Elliott. Go figure. - Ed. (12/7/06)

You do know that NOT every time someone says someone is a "---- monkey" ..." Ooooh! Finally made the mailba....ahhhh crap. Nevermind.... Badmonkey (12/7/06)

Hey Dave - I found the following to be a bit weird - the other night I was spinning around the AM dial and heard a minute or two of Michael Savage on WTNT (the guy was foaming at the mouth about something or another) when suddenly the station preempted his show for a hockey game. Not that unusual, I guess, except WTNT is a talker and not a sports station. I continued tuning around and, low and behold, Savage was back on the air on WTEM - the sports station! So, the sports station was running the talk guy and the talk station was running the hockey game. Go figure? Clear Channel fun and games! That's what happens when you have too many stations in one market. Also - why are guys like the Sports Junkies (I'm sorry, they are just the "Junkies" now) allowed to call themselves and other people "faggots" all the time and not run into problems like Anita Marks did with her "monkey" comment? Seems a bit odd. I always cringe when I hear the Junkies use that term. So much anger behind that term. YJ (12/7/06)

To Justin in McLean: Your lame explanation is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with this country today. If you're hurt by the N-word it's because you're over-sensitive, soft and weak. Point-blank! People need to toughen up in this country or political correctness will destroy us. Focus on the important stuff like death and mayhem killing our troops in Iraq, homelessness or child abuse. What a wonderful country this is that the only thing we do wrong is talk to each other with mean words. GROW UP EVERYONE! THIS IS PATHETIC! Tim in Warrenton (12/7/06)

Carl, it's no biggie, really. I'm a big girl and can handle the heat. I eat most of these people for breakfast and spit them out by lunch. Feliz Navidad! -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/7/06)

"Why is there such a double standard with the N word anyways? Blacks, mexicans and other minorities say it all the time as if it's someone name, but when a white person says it, uh oh. What a joke" Do you REALLY not understand why there is a big difference between a black person using the N word, and a white person using it? If you really don't get it, the answer to this is historical context. The reason white people can't and shouldn't use the N word is because of the long history of white people's use of that word. The history of black use of the word is pretty different, for obvious reasons. - Justin in McLean (12/7/06)

So..."Danny Boy" is rumored to by 104.1 (WGMS)....What a shame. I have listened to that station consistently since coming to the area in 1989. Now with all the big conglomerates owning radio in town....does this mean that WGMS, or whatever it is going to be called, will be considered locally owned? (12/7/06)

How many remember when WTOP AM?FM would carry the maryland football game and WINX would carry the Senators baseball game on Saturday afternoon's??? rob (12/7/06)

I think Sylvie has put many good points in. It does not suprise me that several asexual losers would put her down. Sylvie, I have always had a thing for latin women (my last fiancee). Write me sometime at yahoo. Bryslock (12/7/06)

Has radio ever sucked this bad????? Come on, it's sucked for the last 9 years. XTRA was the last real personality station in the market and they played OLDIES. BIG sucked, no personality EVER! RADIO HAS DIED....AND WILL CONTINUE TO DIE, until someone comes along that goes back to LOCAL news, weather, great music and great personalities..ANG (12/7/06)

If a "show" that will have been on a 2 month hiatus returns on Jan 2 and no one tunes in.....Does any one care?? Nope...no one cares.... (12/7/06)

To inject a couple of serious notes here: 1) "Silvie in Waldorf" sounds to me like a normal person who was interested in offering her opinions on this site. It is not right to subject her to such nasty ad hominem attacks. What kind of sick people are there who, when a person offers opinions without cursing, nasty metaphors, or disgusting descriptions of bodily functions that often appear here, she is greeted with such nasty comments? 2) The news item about Chris Matthews is more ominous than most of us must realize. The combination of diabetes, a foot injury, and hospitalization means, possibly, that there may be a serious risk of toe or foot amputation (or worse) because of an infection that is not going away. Please, God, let's hope Mr. Matthews recovers without requiring such measures. -- Carl in Olney (12/7/06)

Scott Brady is one of the “good guys” in the business. He’ll land on his feet, I’m sure. (12/7/06)

The monkey comment by anita marks really isn't that big of a deal. Everyone wants to jump on the race issue all the time especially when the potential offender is white. If shawn merriman was white and she said this would it have really mattered, but since everyone's panties are still in a bunch over the michael richards thing, then this is of some concern? Seriously, not a big deal. Why is there such a double standard with the N word anyways? Blacks, mexicans and other minorities say it all the time as if it's someone name, but when a white person says it, uh oh. What a joke. Anita marks' show sucks regardless, surprised someone was listening and heard it. love the site dave --- Jim (12/7/06)

Damn you, Dave Hughes! You HAD to remind me of the debacle that WAS channel 18 in San Juan - WHOA-TV. It was put on the air by the owner of DC Transit (Metrobus' private industry forerunner that went broke) owner O. Roy Chalk. In 1966, my late father had put together a group that wanted to buy channel 18 and an HMO. At the last possible second, the deal fell apart. No beachfront condo for me. ¡Coño! Now, let me go decorate some palm trees and get ready for Three Kings Day! ¡Feliz Navidad y Prospero Año Nuevo! - Ed. Rodriguez de la mañana en KEY-103 (12/7/06)

Dave's response: I thought the calls were WTSJ or something like that. Back in the early 1970s, when I caught it, 18 ran the old Mike Douglas show, which, I'm sure, was very (!!!) popular in San Juan.....

To answer an earlier question, Anita Marks played for the Miami Fury franchise in the IWFL women's football league. It's doubtful one would have been tackled by her considering that she was a quarterback. Everett W. (12/7/06)

Hello, Just wanted to add this, but I'm sure you've had several people tell you already. The term "juice monkey" is pretty common in the bodybuilding community and means nothing more then someone that everyone knows is on steriods (or juicing). Anita Marks' comments are nothing you wouldn't hear at a hardcore gym or a bodybuilding show. Jason (12/7/06)

Has D.C. radio ever sucked as bad, in the past, as it does now? (12/7/06)

Dave's response: I think you're right. Even through the "bad times" in the past, DC always had progressive rocker WHFS. Or we had a cool oldies station with XTRA or WBIG. Now, it's all pretty much gone.....

Rant: While talking to the Soup's Joel McHale this morning Mickey (of Mickey & Amelia) on 98 Rock boasting that he makes at least $500,000 a year. What a way to relate to those all-important P1's asshole! (12/7/06)

You do know that NOT every time someone says someone is a "---- monkey" they are NOT referring to race, right? And everyone at the respective radio stations involved know this, too. Saying something or someone is a "---- monkey" is a term widely used and the use, again, does NOT refer to race, creed or nationality. It's just a term. Here's one example: "love monkey." Here's another: "sports monkey." And another one: a "gambling monkey." I've heard people use all three of these--and, for the third time to make the point clear, it is NOT referring to a person's race, creed, nationality, religious affiliation, economic status or anything else. People just need to calm down. (12/7/06)

Dave: You write that Marks is a former professional football player. She's a woman; who did she play for? Is this correct? Keep up the great work! Tony Rome (12/7/06)

Dave's response: I found this pic (right) at www.autographedtoyou.com. I wouldn't mind being tackled by her.....

A friend of mine tells me he can hijack 106.7's signal. That would be something to talk about instead of Banana Boy and The Monkey who aren't coming back until January. He can put oldies music on for a while. And non-stop hip-hop. And Non-Stop Reggaeton. And XMAS Music. And Adult Standards. Will he hijack the station's signal? Maybe. He doesn't know if he's going to DC area for vacation or Florida. (12/7/06)

Dave's response: Yeah, I'd guess if you parked on a hill between the Fairfax Main Street studios and the Merrifield transmitter site (at I-66 and the DC Beltway) you could "intercept" the STL signal and "reprogram" 106.7. Hmmm.....

LOL...those 'live' phoners on the radio aren't live either. Not everybody can watch news at the designated times, thus there is the need to repeat. TV was sort of late to realize this, and thus gave lots of room for the growth of on-demand news services such as cable and Internet. Quite a bit of 'live' TV now isn't,,,the live is only in that the broadcast was produced 'live on tape' which means with little or no editing, often quickly reracked and ready for broadcast moments after being completed. In some cases, the live merely exists as a wrapper to produced segments, which can be updated and inserted during the subsequent replays of the 'live' newscast without producing a whole new newscast. Many of those segments as well are built from out of house content as well. There are too many costs and liabilities associated with true live production, so it is done as sparingly as possible. In a half hour program, there is about 5 mins of studio live content. Much of the live now is 'news on the street' where the subject speaks for itself without legions of researchers, writers, reporters and editors and where the liabilities are significantly reduced because of exceptions made for live news coverage. (12/7/06)

"Bill: Yes, O'Meara looks a lot like Raul from "El Gordo y La Flaca"... by the way, Lilly (La Flaca) is Emilio Estefan's sister" La flaca is actually his niece, Silvie. (12/7/06)

Who does the voice overs on WJFK for the commercials, I know Lisa Herndon does them and Rob Spewack does them, but does anyone know the other people. Just Curious Phillip (12/7/06)

Re: News Item-Fatcats Salivate--Nice load of BS the NAB sent to the FCC. I would contend that it's the previous relaxing of the ownership rules that led to every station sounding like every other station and created the demand for alternate media that the NAB constantly whines is so harmful to their constituents. NAB: Meet the enemy. It be you. (12/7/06)

Dave's response: Would it really be so horribly wrong to have a few locally-owned, independent commercial stations (and I'm talking about big-sigged FMers) in major markets? How about that? Or is the Federal Corrupt Commission really in the back pocket of Big Media, as we all fear? The FCC bitches about indecency (the "act" plays in Peoria), but when it comes time for the corporate station owners to pay the fines, the FCC always winks and walks away. "See you on the golf course in Bermuda." Hmmm.....

Re: Repeating stories in AM = DUH. You think they rewrite every story for every newscast?? Here’s a shocker for you: those “live” looking segments, unless they say live, they’re taped bits! (especially NYC broadcasts) I love watching Up to the Minute, by the 3rd iteration of the stories, I can repeat them word for word along with Meg. Oh the fun I have working graveyard trying not to go sane. (not a typo) (12/7/06)

Hey Dumbass who things Don G has a myspace.....that was not created by him. Take a simple look at it. (12/7/06)

Bill: Yes, O'Meara looks a lot like Raul from "El Gordo y La Flaca"... by the way, Lilly (La Flaca) is Emilio Estefan's sister... Dr. Laura Bozzo's show is awful... I do think that some of the guests are told what to say and how to say it and to hit other guests as much as possible... it does make Jerry Springer's show look like a Martha Stewart holiday special. -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/7/06)

The Ravens Radio rights are a revenue share. No rights fee. (12/7/06)

Don making a failed power play to take mornings away from the Junks. That is a theory that finally makes sense to me. I bet that’s what happened. I would love to see you confirm that from your pool of insiders, now that the contract situation is finally public and there may be less reluctance to talk. This sounds just like something Don would try. He is nothing if not full of himself. I am a 20+ year fan, and things are definitely tired and old. I only listen now because there is nothing else in pm drive. I am very glad it didn’t work. I would hate to lose the junks in the AM. (And I have really had fun reading the mailbag during this whole D&M fiasco. Great site Dave! Don turned me on long ago in one of his crazy rants about you. I bet I am one of several thousand new readers you can directly thank him for.) (12/7/06)

Dave, have you (Didja – in Republican speak) ever noticed that many conservatives do not have spell checker? I do not mean to be superior (high falutin) , but don’t anagrams (Webster: a word or phrase made using another word or phrase) even at the largest tolerance, have to be anagrams? there is no “u”, “I”, “y” in Democrat. But I would love to be one of those Beaurcrats (Bureaucrat), because that poster is most likely a Governor or Senator, and I think I could raise some money for him, because his vocabulary is so much more intelligent that our Presidents.. (12/7/06)

Don and Mike back on 1/2/07? Yawn. (1/2/07)

Dear DCRTV: Like many of you I watch the evening news and early morning news I have noticed that the "news" is repeating many segments For example I saw the same "breaking news" fire store last Mondayy night on the 11pm news and in the 5:00 am broadcasts. Have they cut staff so much that the news is recycling stories and thinking people are not going to notice? Thanks for all your help. (12/7/06)

RE: [I'm actually the "Ann Coulter of DCRTV"] I'm confused....are you referring to the part of Ann Coulter that rants unbelievable horses#!t that nobody takes seriously, or, like Coulter, are you really a dude only pretending to be a lady? (1/2/07)

Dave's response: On the next Aerosmith album - "Dude Looks Like Ann Coulter".....

Other than Arch Campbell, Susan Kidd, I.J. Hudson, and George Michael being let go by NBC... I notice that NBC 4, and the other NBC-owned stations have picked up that new "iVillage" show. I don't think that show will last. If anything, I'd much rather see NBC dump "iVillage", and resurrect "Starting Over". I began a petition a few weeks ago for NBC-Universal and Bunim-Murray Productions to bring back the reality show. If anybody is interested in signing this petition, just click this link... www.gopetition.com. If anything else... NBC ending the 9-10am hour of "The Today Show", and go back to the original 7-9am format... and NBC adding a new daytime show to the line-up at 11am (I wouldn't mind seeing "Starting Over" coming back, and NBC making it a new network show). I doubt very seriously that NBC plans on the top-rated news program going back to the 2-hour format anytime soon. NBC end the low-rated soap opera "Passions", and it be replaced with a newer soap opera. I wouldn't mind seeing a new soap opera, and it be a merging of the recently cancelled "Another World" and this low-rated show that NBC has been considering ending for quite some time. NBC ending the "All-Night" repeats (The Tonight Show, Late Night, Saturday Night Live, etc.), and introducing a new overnight news program to compete against ABC's "World News Now" and CBS's "Up To The Minute". As for prime-time... I was a bit disappointed in them cancelling "Joey". Instead of NBC ending that show completely, I wouldn't mind the idea of NBC selling that show over to another network, like FOX or The CW. I hope that new "30 Rock" show, with Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and Tracy Morgan is here to stay. Way too many "Law and Order" spin-offs... I don't know if NBC plans on ending them anytime soon or not. Just my thoughts. (12/7/06)

Dear Silvie of Waldorf, Don't you think that Mike O'Meara bears a striking resemblance to the dude on the El Gordo y La Flaca tv show?...and hey Jimmy Kimmel even mentioned the "Laura" talk show last night , calling it the Spanish equivalent of the Jerry Springer show and showed clips of the womens hauling off and hitting their men for something and another...what you call rednecks in spanish?....I always thought that Don Geronimo was above such things as MySpace, you know why deal with the grate unwashed when he don't need too...but good golly he does have a webpage at myspace www.myspace.com/don_geronimo... Can you do the "Sacremento Dance" to "let's whip it good ,baby"?......Will Bowman's Body ever be a guest on Count Gore's webcast? And I haven't checked the Count's site this month is "The Martians kidnapped Santee Claus and did very bad things to him" currently playing?.......Bill Smith........He'll be coming down the chimenknee, DOWN (12/7/06)

I was sorry to hear about Scott Brady's being let go at his station in Phoenix. I certainly wish him the best of luck and hope that he can land back here in the area...I remember Scott from the old WMIX Mix 106.5 days when it was an A/C station back when it was McCarthy in the Morning, Kathy Whiteside-midday's, Ken Merson-afternoons and Scott Brady-nights. In fact I met Scott once as a little kid at Mix 106.5 remote on a sunny Saturday at the Super Fresh in the Chadwick Shopping Center at Security Blvd and Rolling Rd in Woodlawn close to where I grew up. I remember getting a WMIX sticker and I think a magnet from Scott. Its funny I remember that day as if it were yesterday. Best of luck Scott. -Michael Popovec (12/7/06)

1) I'm actually the "Ann Coulter of DCRTV". I'm also fascinated by how someone unknown to me has the time to do an anagram on my name. I don't know if I should be flattered or disgusted, as I sit here drooling on my gingerbread latte in my smelly-ass pajamas. 2) Dave, there's more than one English channel in Puerto Rico now... probably around 200 (in English only from various states and English-speaking countries, plus about 50 more channels from other nations). Our "TV Claim to Fame" is that back in 1981, the island got MTV before U.S. cities like DC and NY. -Silvie a.k.a. Ms. Geritol Queen in Waldorf- (12/6/06)

Didja ever notice how much time liberals spend calling names and trying to sound high falutin? Now I think if we want to talk anagrams, then Democrat might mean Mediocre Democracy of Beauracrats. (12/6/06)

The supply/demand equation for people who want jobs as air personalities has been bleak for a long time. Quite a few decades ago we started a radio station in the DC area. My co-founder attended a gathering of radio management people not long before we were to go on the air. He wondered aloud about the availability of air staff. The answer was that "there are three times as many people who want air jobs in DC radio as there are jobs". That was before most of the people who post to DCRTV were born - maybe before their parents were born. (12/6/06)

re: "Let me show you how conservative talk radio works..." should read "let me show you how 90% of talk radio works". Those tactics aren't reserved for one side or the other. And please, no lessons in satire. Anyone that can read and comprehend past the third sentence realized it. It was a vocal minority that took the bait. Signed, Mark Twain. (12/6/06)

For the on-air people who feel they are not adequately compensated, unfortunately, you may never be. The number of on-air positions is rapidly shrinking while the talent pool is growing. The law of supply and demands tell corporate owners they don't have to pay on-air people well, because there are 10 people standing in line who want your gig. Radio stations have people banging on their door for on air gigs. The same radio stations have trouble finding qualified, quality sales people. When I made the move from "air talent" to sales, I doubled my income in the first year. I became sales manager of the radio station two years later. The most I ever made in an on-air position was 67K in 2001 in DC. Theres a lot more money out there if you want to reach for it, but you have to be willing to make the sacrifices that others have outlined in their posts. When I was on air, I wanted the focus on me and was paid little. When I learned to focus on the client, I started ringing the cash register. If you ever learn to sell, those are skills that nobody can ever take away from you. If you can sell, you never have to worry about having a job. People will be banging on your door. My spouse is also in sales and was recently offered jobs at 4 different companies. That aint happening to very many on air people. Good luck to all. (12/6/06)

I have some advice for those who took the "Great Americans" post at face value, and watch the Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Stephen Colbert is not being serious. Just so you know. Regards, Tony p.s. Glenn Miller is still missing (12/6/06)

BTW...pick your own favorite "Dave Hughes" anagram....either "He's a veg, duh!" or "HUGE SHAVED". (12/6/06)

Dave's response: I haven't shaved since 1979. Ha ha ha.....

Anyone ever notice that "slivie in waldorf" is an anagram for "Wind of Evil Liars"? Pretty well explains why Silvie is always coming to defense of every mean word broadcast on 'MAL!....nawwww... Personally, until I see both of them in the same place at the same time, I'm sticking to my thoery that she's really Chris Plante in Drag. BTW...Plante's anagram is "Spin La Retch" Happy Hannaquanzafestimas everyone! (12/6/06)

The whole "Great American" rant was a joke. I am glad some of you enjoyed it. If we all didn't know Puerto Rico's citizens are US Citizens, I bet many of you would be angry at the Democrats after that tirade. Let me show you how conservative talk radio works; the following two statements are true to a degree, but, when presented and worded as follows, convey a different message than what the words actually mean. A) Puerto Rico has not been a friend of the United States ever since they defied us and sent athletes to the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. B) Did you know Puerto Rico and Mexico are fundamentally closer to Castro's Cuba then that nut case in Venezuela whose social policies are out to destroy us? Explanation; Parts of Mexico and the Island of Puerto Rico are geographically closer to Cuba than Venezuela is. And yes, Puerto Rico did send Athletes to Moscow in 1980. By juxtaposing those sentences, and putting negative wording around them, while ignoring other parts of the whole picture, creates controversy where there really should be none, and is the exact talent needed for WMAL talk radio. Therefore, we get "The War on Christmas," "The Feminazies," "the tax and spend libs" etc. Master this equivocating wording technique to make thunderous assertions sound like fact, and like Sean, Mark Levin, and Rush, you too can have a talk show on WMAL! I call this method "Hannity speak." But, Sylvie in Waldorf, you are still a great American. (12/6/06)

Dave's response: My parents took me to San Juan in 1972. And, the first thing I did when we checked into the hotel was check out the TV offerings. Back then, the only place for English language TV programming was a UHF outlet - Channel 18.....

Hey Dave… Sorry for being such a bother but you are my go to radio guy. Do you by any chance know how much the Ravens radio rights went for? I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find it. As always, thanks. Louis (12/6/06)

Dave's response: Anybody know?

First I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and Happy New Year. A hi to Joyce Conroy, congrats on settling in, in Virginia and finding another radio home, that's great to be able to continue to do what you want to do, I never lose interest in being around the studio as I know your the same and have been doing it a lot longer than myself... Secondly I for one am darn glad Don and Mike will be back, always have been a fan, always will be no matter what the ups and downs. Yeah I get tired of Best Of but who knows what has happened behind the scenes, I am more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Believe me when they are gone they are gone, just like when WQSR flipped from the oldies....By the way speaking of oldies I have really enjoyed listening to the Clear Channel HD2 stations that are streaming on-line inlcuding BIG 100.3 and WMJJ out of Birmingham, AL. Great oldies from the 50 & 60s. Just google CC and the HD2 stations. I was really hoping WQSR would put oldies on HD2 and stream on-line but they decided to put ESPN 1300 on there instead. -Michael Popovec (12/6/06)

Not sure if anyone's sent to you, but D&M's website now reads 1-02-07 The Return!, instead of "WTF?" confirming Mr. Hughes. (12/6/06)

Dave's response: Confirming me? Wow. Hey, someone sent us a screen shot of the site on 12/5. Scroll down.....

I heard it was Tim Russert AND Chris Matthews AND Kathleen Matthews ''roughhousing''. Paul (12/6/06)

"I guess Brandon Lloyd's impending suspension didn't rate above whatever tomato can Lange was due to punch." Triple X pays Lloyd to do a regular Monday evening show with Bram Weinstein. A few weeks ago, they spent about ten minutes arguing whether the verdict in the O.J. Simpson criminal trial was correct (a segment not likely to find its way to the Museum of Broadcasting). Meanwhile, Tony Kornheiser made yet another appearance on John Riggins' show yesterday. Apparently Riggo's sidekick Gary Braun was a guest in ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcast booth, riding to Philly and back in Mr. Tony's cruiser. Kornheiser hinted that he'd probably do MNF again next season if invited back. Could Triple X be wooing him for a radio gig once football season's over? The partnership between Dan Snyder's network and ESPN Radio would seem to make that a natural matc h, alt hough going on the payroll of the Redskins owner would probably force Kornheiser to leave the Washington Post. I suspect that Red Zebra would have little hesitation about ditching syndicated gasbag Colin Cowherd and putting T.K. in the 10 AM to noon timeslot instead. On the other hand, WTEM will probably move heaven and earth to get him back in its daily lineup. Andy Pollin has mentioned more than once that Sports Reporters would gladly vacate its current slot to accomodate him if necessary. Mike, Fairfax (12/6/06)

RE:It may just be me, but something seems a little fishy about our friend "Silvie." ---I have thought the same thing!! It's like she's Bizarro Dave! Elderly, Hispanic granny, living in Waldorf (c'mon, who admits to living in Waldorf), walking around in pajamas, drooling coffee and spiking her Tang with LSD while memorizing the MAL playbook. Side-splitting, comic book character. Dave, did you get bored and create a comedic alter ego? Good stuff. Signed, The News4 Staff (we have to keep tabs on all our stalkers.) "shhhh...not really the news4 staff but don't tell her..." (12/6/06)

You dolts.....you dumb dolts....doncha get it??? This entire D&M facade was exactly what I TOLD YOU it was..a "PROMOTIONAL MOVE". The got loads of print from the "fat-heads" (Ditto heads). Speculation ran amuck..and looooooook. They're back on the air in January, what a SURPRISE! Who'da thunk! ANG (12/6/06)

re:Whats up with WHFS?..I'll tell you whats up with WHFS. HFS is run by a "man" who can not program a VCR let alone a radio station. dont' be surprised to see the HFS Music go bye-bye in the coming months, being replaced by the Troy and Jon show and or the newly payrolled Amber Theo-Harris. Amber should replace Anita Marks on 1300 now that she is out of the good graces of BP after speading bad rumors about Amber. (12/6/06)

Enough with the "I'm never listening to Don and Mike ever again" posts. Anyone who cares enough to write about it on here is gonna have ears glued to the radio on Jan 2nd. Do people really think posting that stuff has any affect on anyone? TJ - Davisville (12/6/06)

I'm not in radio/TV sales but in sales and had to chime in. The amount of jealousy and vitriol on this board is truly mind boggling. Whether someone is #1, i.e. Rush, D&M, or high earning ad sales people, you people have to remember one thing. Rush and D&M have been at the top of their games for a long time. Especially the shots at Rush are amazing. Whether the hatred is political or just jealousy, he has worked hard and deserves every penny he earns. He's #1. Deal with it. Same for D&M; they may have lost me with the latest BS but I still don't begrudge them their success. They entertained me for a long time and if they can negotiate the best deal for themselves, more power to them. As for the salespeople, they deserve what they make as well. If they don't produce, they don't get paid. If they produce, they should be compensated properly. GOOD sales skills take a lot of tie and effort to cultivate. If you're constantly whining about how little money you make or "it's not fair that ____ makes all that money", refine your skills to make yourself more valuable rather than bitching about someone else's success. (12/6/06)

Bob Shannon, late of WCBS-FM, who I've been a fan of since his Don Bombard days at WOLF in Syracuse in the late sixties, recently made some good points at the New York Radio Message Board about what HD needs to do to gain a successful foothold, and it does deal with the "content is king" formula: "HD has the potential to develop and present the kind of radio that has been abandoned on the FM and AM dials. By tailoring music formats for individual markets, with a live and local presentation, HD can give back the programming that has been taken away from so many long-time loyal listeners, thus giving them an incentive to acquire HD radios. At the same time, it can attract NEW and younger listeners who have never been exposed to the entertainment factors of great traditional radio (and who are precisely the consumers that eagerly purchase new technologies). This could be part of the impetus to get HD into cars...as FM began to offer programming and entertainment superior to AM, combo AM/FM radios became standard as listeners made the switch. HD is poised, in my opinion, to duplicate that feat--but ONLY if it offers traditional audience-friendly content, targeted at what people in the real world ACTUALLY want to hear (as opposed to what misguided broadcast conglomerates and ad agencies THINK they want to -- or SHOULD want to -- hear). So far, broadcasters have put the HD cart before the horse. It's time to take the reins and win the radio race, IMHO." Once HD radio becomes more affordable and convenient -- but has content that significantly differs from current regular AM/FM radio fare, with a local angle XM and Sirius can't match -- then I'll be seriously interested in the medium. For now, I wait. -- Vincent in Triangle (12/6/06)

It may just be me, but something seems a little fishy about our friend "Silvie." (12/6/06)

I took the post starting with "Every fan of WMAL is a great American" to be totally tongue-in-cheek, including the part about Puerto Ricans being illegal immigrants (I think he/she threw that in for Silvie's benefit). I believe the poster was being sarcastic, and I thought, very witty. I can't believe the poster was actually serious...at least I hope not. Evidently a lot of people reading here believed the post was serious. Some people need a sense of humor, although since inflection and intonation are not possible in e-mails, it's not always easy to tell when humor is intended. I choose to believe it was in this post. -- Bobbie (12/6/06)

I listen to 89.7 WTMD every now and again, and today I heard for the first time that you can donate a doller a day for a year ($365) and you'll get an Accurian Tabletop HD Radio. I guess it's a cross promotion for WAMU's HD broadcast of WTMD's programming on their HD-2 channel. I ALSO THINK IT'S FUNNY THAT A BASICALLY PUBLIC STATION IS DOING BETTER PROMOTION FOR HD RADIO AND IT'S CONTENT THAN CBS, CLEAR CHANNEL, HERST, ABC, OR ANYBODY ELSE IN THE REGION. If you want HD radio to work people you have to support it not only with content, but promotional support to get the damn expensive radios into peoples cars or living rooms. Ask an average Joe what HD radio is and they'll guess that you're talking about satellite radio's XM or Sirius. I'm still waiting for an HFS 2 commercial, a Jack FM 2 (hopefully good time oldies), and a 98 Rock 2. WRNR is still not into the HD radio set yet, and they'll probably stay away for a while untill the market gets bigger, which is a good damn idea. At $75,000, the HD broadcasting update is relatively cheap, but from what I've heard it makes even the high powered FM's analogue signal sound fuzzy, so I can't imagine what it'd do to a station with a much smaller coverage area and signal. "HD Radio: do you mean satellite?" KeninEaston (12/6/06)

Whats up with WHFS? Today I turned it on at 1:30 and Ed Norris was on there. Then it said that at 1pm the Money Guy (can't remember his name) and then at 2 the Penn Jillette Show ( but it was already past 1pm). Are the guys that were on last week gone? Is that annoying money guy gone? Why isin't the annoying Pen Jillette gone too? (12/6/06)

Dave's response: Yes, CBS has pulled the plug on Jim Cramer's radio show.....

"I have heard that illegal immigrants in this country, especially Puerto Ricans..." - This is the howler of the day Thanks for the laugh! (12/6/06)

I'm pretty sure it was Tim Russert who hurt himself roughhousing with his dog and not Chris Matthews. Was it both? What are the odds? Best to Chris on getting back on the air, I'm sure he is bummed to be missing the big Iraq Study Group report news cycle! (12/6/06)

This just in.... the "illegal" residents from Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands have officially filed a protest for being left out of the illegal immigration discussion at WMAL. Was that really a REAL post from a REAL person Dave, or do you just have fun making some of this stuff up for sport every now and then? I wonder. :-) (12/6/06)

Dave's response: Damn, you found me out.....

To Ricky Martin & the ghost of Roberto Clemente: Finally! Now I do know that the staff at NBC4 reads my posts! -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/6/06)

Uh, Guys? Sorry to interrupt the deliberations of the Brain Trust, but PUERTO RICANS ARE US CITIZENS, FOOLS! It's stupid ignorance like this that makes an intelligent discussion of the Immigration Issue all the harder. I've never heard Rush, Hannity or anybody else as a host on WMAL ever make such a foolish assertion as PR being a foreign country. And, yeah, I'm a proud Republican who is the son of legal immigrants (including WW2 Concentration Camp survivors),supports expanded opportunities for legal immigration and is sick and tired of the Left equating legal immigration with illegal border-hopping. The ignorance that both sides of the issue demonstrate is mind-boggling. Genghis Cohen (12/6/06)

Puerto Ricans have been U.S. citizens since 1917. Puerto Rico has been a U.S. territory since 1898. Get out from under the rock you live in and brush up on your history, bro'. It is nutjobs like you that give WMAL a bad name. -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/6/06)

Listening to Mark Levin for more than a few minutes makes the fillings in my teeth throb. The guy has a face made for radio, and a voice perfect for silent movies. It pains me to think that there are people out there so desparate for SOMETHING to listen to to validate their racist attitude, homophobiia, and unnatural fear of LIBERALS that they would sit through more than ten minutes of his clown's circus. I do have to complement him though...he did a wonderful job voicing over for the alien invaders in the movie "Mars Attacks". (12/6/06)

"Every fan of WMAL is a 'great American.' " Naw, every fan of WMAL is a right-wing punk. -- Vincent in Triangle (12/6/06)

To the "open minded" poster who wrote: "I have heard that illegal immigrants in this country, especially Puerto Ricans, vote in our Presidential elections and the dimwit Dems encourage it. America is for Americans. Puerto Ricans that illegally live in this country can be seen as day laborers in Herndon, and it needs to stop. " The last time I checked, residents of Puerto Rico were American citizens. If you live in Puerto Rico, you ARE living in the U.S., and doing so legally. (12/6/06)

Hey zombie - at the end of the day, Sirius is the one lowering estimates, not XM. Sirius is the company with fewer subscribers, not XM. Sirius is the company that counts units in unsold cars in dealership lots as subscribers, not XM. Sirius is the company where a share of stock costs less than a Happy Meal, not XM. Sirius is the company with the bloviating gasbag CEO who keeps begging for a merger ( i.e. an XM buyout), not XM. And again NO ONE cares about Howard Stern. Still. Hoo-Hoo, I invented tanking companies, tell 'em Fred. (12/6/06)

A Puerto Rican 'look'? Keep it up, your material is priceless. The whole office is howling. Did that come from your 'inside source' too?...signed (since you insisted on not being anonymous), Ricky Martin & the ghost of Roberto Clemente (12/6/06)

Stock prices are afunny thing. But in the case of Sirius the price reflected the latest estimates. When that estimate changed the market reacted negatively and you saw a decline in price for BOTH XMSR and SIRI. this is fairly typical behavior when there is negative news ina sector. However since it was SIRI that lowered ts estimate the other day that made it the first---or in siome cases only---company mentioned in the headline. as for D&M I don't think that we will ever know all the details but since news reports indicated that they got an option for two more years (to be exercised by them) it is hard to say that they lost. (12/6/06)

Every fan of WMAL is a "great American." Silvie is no exception. The illegal immigration issue is real, and the major part of the problem is the illegal flow of people into this country form Mexico and parts of Central America, including Puerto Rico. Send them all back. We need to build a 600 mile fence through Arizona and Texas to keep them all out, and be done with it. I have heard that illegal immigrants in this country, especially Puerto Ricans, vote in our Presidential elections and the dimwit Dems encourage it. America is for Americans. Puerto Ricans that illegally live in this country can be seen as day laborers in Herndon, and it needs to stop. Did you know Puerto Rico and Mexico are fundamentally closer to Castro's Cuba then that nut case in Venezuela whose social policies are out to destroy us? And the libs look away when they cross our border? Unbelievable! But the real issue now is THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS. Liberal activist judges, Hillary Clinton, and the American Commie Loving Union (ACLU) are trying to outlaw Santa Claus, nativity scenes, and the song "Silent Night." You libs just don't get it; we are in a war that has several fronts, and we need to support our troops, our war time President, Christmas, building two parallel 600 mile 21 foot high fences to keep out illegal immigration, and those that defend our cultural values (who happen to all be Republican). We need to protect and defend the sanctity of marriage by not allowing gays to participate. Also, You should only be sworn in to office with a Bible; what's next, Hillary and the demoncrats substituting the Bible with a Michael Moore book? Listen to WMAL for more information on THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS, War on Immigration, and all our other justifiable wars. We need you now more than ever. We need you all to be Hannitized for your protection. Also, if you don't listen to Mark Levin you don't support our troops, it is that simple. (12/6/06)

I'm Puerto Rican, you fools! Steve looks like my brother and my cousin and the guys I grew up with. Steve is a native New Yorker who grew up in Flushing. I just e-mailed him to ask if he's of Puerto Rican descent. If he replies back, I'll let you know. -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/6/06)

Best hopes and wishes to Chris Matthews for a speedy recovery. I figure this was needed after reading all the serious venom being spewed about D&M, Ch. 4, etc. (12/6/06)

"....One person say’s “they are in breach of contract” //// Arnold Schwarzenegger checking in with a comment.... (12/6/06)

Can you say breach of contract? My take on the whole D&M thing is that they broke their contract when they walked out. CBS probably took legal action, possibly after they were told to be back at work and refused. The new 2010 deal seems to benefit WJFK more than D&M since Don was so eagerly looking forward to retirement. I would not be surprised to find there are some other changes to their deal that were included as a form of punishment. (12/6/06)

"Have any of the self proclaimed “experts” on the world taken their head our of their asses yet? Read back through the posts about D&M." OK O'Meara - time to get back to cleaning that... kitchen at your greasy spoon. (12/6/06)

Well, after commenting on the D&M situation so far, I guess I can't stop now. OK, I find Donnie G. a bitter, odious and unlistenable radio personality, and I won't listen any more - BUT - I've got to give Psycho Don his props - after pulling a job walk-out he winds up with a new contract - Brilliant! Or is he just lucky that he works for the most inept management in radio? Other than the Junks in the AM, and the D&M revenue generator in the PM, WJFK is a joke, a radio wasteland, does the Pat Goss show even have advertisements other than "BG Products Snake Oil"? I'll bet crazy Don knew that he could pull this stunt - because what choice would Michael Hughes and his bosses at CBS have? Some advertising revenue is better than nothing in the PM drive time, and something tells me O&A ain't posting any monster ratings or advertising revenue from 10am to 1pm. When the Junkies loveable train wreck of a radio show stumbled it's was through their Poker tournament at the Bellagio/AC last week, one of the Junks mentioned meeting this Joel Hollander of CBS radio for dinner. What the H*ll? Why is a radio mogul like Hollander breaking bread with the Junks? They are a one market act, and with their ratings, perhaps very lucky to be where they are. The four Junks probably cost Hollander less in a year than he had to pay Howard in a month. Summary: WJFK should be a monster regional FM broadcasting power with top-notch talkers and some sports. Instead we have an amusing AM amateur hour, a mid-day wasteland, PM has-beens, probably no El Hefe and JDubs at night, followed by infomertials and drivel on the weekends. Joel Hollander should visit Fairfax, and clean house - from top to bottom. But, in the end, it's probably easier to exhange small talk with one of the Junks over dinner at Bobby Flay's joint in the Bellagio. DA_PJ_DJ_in_VA swears off JFK... (12/6/06)

According to NBC4, a shooting in Prince George's County is BREAKING NEWS...why? -- Bobbie (12/6/06)

Hey Silvie, got a question for you. How can you tell by looking at someone that he/she is Puerto Rican? Or for that matter, how can you figure out anyone's nationality simply by looking at them? I guess that talent goes along with thinking anyone who looks hispanic is an illegal immigrant, or anyone who looks middle eastern is a terrorist. Jeesh! JT (12/6/06)

Just a little un-spun information regarding Sirius's subscription estimate for 2006. When the year began, they estimated 6 million subscribers. They subsequently boosted the estimate to 6.3 million. Now they are essentially changing guidance to what their initial estimate was: 5.9 million to 6.1 million. If the lazy folks in the media actually took the time to do 30 seconds worth of research, this bogus spin would not even exist. Conversely, (and little mentioned) XM's initial estimate for end of year 2006 was 9 million. They have lowered their targets twice, and now estimate 7.7 million to 7.9 million. Why a company that lowered its guidance by more than 1 million subscribers does not get 1/2 the attention a company that essentially revised its guidance back to its original estimate is beyond me, but at least get the facts right before splashing the latest (non) story up on your site. (12/6/06)

Dave's response: Actually, we just linked to an R&R story. Blame them.....

I thought I would never send anything into this website, but I now feel compelled just like the rest. Have any of the self proclaimed “experts” on the world taken their head our of their asses yet? Read back through the posts about D&M. One person say’s “they are in breach of contract”, someone else “Don & Mike lost out on a power play for morning drive.” Aaaaa Question, when did Don or Mike say they wanted the morning drive? I can recall on the show Don said he did not want it, and there were at the time slot they wanted. Has anyone stopped to think, humm. Maybe they did not walk off the show, maybe CBS pulled them off the air ? Just Maybe They said phone issues, to cover up they were pulled? Maybe, just Maybe, Don and Mike thought they would be back sooner, but CBS said no? Has anyone taken the time to think, Maybe, just maybe CBS, their Boss.. has been calling the shots? We all know Radio is Don’s therapy, why would be want to be home, humm, Maybe that’s why Don put a WTF on his web site… because CBS pulled the show told them not to talk about it at all, trying to strong arm Don and Mike? Instead of just bashing Don and saying I will never listen again. Did CBS make a HUGE stupid move by pulling them, YES… but how is CBS’ stupidity, Don’s fault? Since when is your boss being stupid, your fault? Do people at work call you and ASSHAT because your boss is stupid? Don, Mike, Buzz. Looking forward to the return in 07. – Alex, Sterling, VA (12/6/06)

Dave's response: But, you didn't mention looking forward to the return of Robbay, Joe, or John? Got something against them?

Selling “air” is a challenge. I, for one, don’t begrudge the salaries salesman make. Like anyone else, they have to bring talent, luck, and hard work into play to get the job done. I also don’t see it coming at the expense of others. In compensation terms, the talent side of this business (radio) has a long way to go to catch up to sales. If people on the creative side would generate more self-esteem, raise their expectations, and start acting like businessmen, their lot would improve too. Instead, you’re held in low regard and you’re paid shit because you shrug your shoulders and have no professional response to the staus quo. Other businesses and industries would kill for the profit margins of most radio stations. If you’re not getting your share, whose fault is that? avt (12/6/06)

*ring-ring-ringg-gg-click* ... Hi, is this Dave? Really?? (giggle giggle) Yeah, could you play that new Red Grove to the Shady Line song, or whatever its called? Yeah, I really like it! And I love your show! Oh, and could you say my name over the air? (giggle giggle) (12/6/06)

Dave's response: Why do people keep thinking that DCRTV is a radio station?

HD RADIO ----- "Interesting to note that XM and Sirius sales have slumped while Radio Shack and other retailers report brisk sales of the HD radios, especially the Accurian. " I worked in an electronic retail store in the early eighties when Beta VTR's came out. They sold well their second and third year out as well. They died. Why? Content Content Content. I can tell you for a FACT that no one spends more than the bare minimum necessary to program the HD2 channels. HD will never succeed no matter how much money Peter Ferrara and the rest of his "marketing" squad throw at it. It doesn't have the coverage in FM, it screws up AM adjacents, and there is no programming. Now XM and Sirius where to begin: Content Content Content. Coverage---the planet, and AM's--not an issue. (12/6/06)

Wow. I can't believe all the venom being thrown at an afternoon radio show. Do you ASSHATS get this upset when your favorite TV shows are in summer reruns? Give these guys a break. Wouldn't you take 8 paid weeks off if you could? And why do all of you think D&M owe you something? They don't. It's a radio program! Get a grip, enjoy the Christmas Holidays and quiteyourbitchin'. (12/6/06)

I just wanted to send a quick note thanking you for recently adding our single "Redline to Shady Grove" from our new record Songs for the Atco Ghost to your rotation. We are extremely happy that word is starting to travel and people are getting into the record. We are really proud of it and thank you very much for all of your support! As you know it means a lot and we truly value it! I was wondering if you would like us to send you some free Canadian Invasion swag to give away to your staff and listener peeps? We would also love to come out and play a set on air sometime or maybe you could point us in the right direction regarding gigging on campus or tell us what the best venue in town would be for us to play? Thanks again for your time and support!! Jim (12/6/06)

Silvie...John Friese is the one who doesn't look like John Mark Carr. -- Bobbie (12/6/06)

"What's worse is when you have to kiss their ass and act like you care about everything they say." Spoken like a true sales slug. Maybe you should listen to their thoughts on the ad campaign they would like to run instead of daydreaming about the new Lexus you'll buy with the commision. The reason you ended up as an AE is because you're best attribute is your brown nose. "So...to the know it all who thinks he's the inside scoop on how it all works, I say go TRY to get a sales gig at a top station and get back to us..." Sorry dude, but I wasn't a waiter at Chili's last week so I won't qualify. I've seen so many AE's at TOP stations fresh out of school, who don't understand a goddamned thing about the business. The station's demographics or how to read Scarborough/Tapscan. I had a salesperson ask me about the station's tower height once for Christ sakes! "You should buy from me, my station has the tallest tower in the market." Hell, half of them don't even listen to the product they sell. "no wonder so many ad (radio and TV) like to hit the bottle!" Truer words were never spoken. A bottle of Grey Goose and some steel wool to cleanse yourself after all the filthy things you do to hit budget and to help you sleep at night.... (12/6/06)

RE: "(and making an excellent living doing so)". Nice to see sales sticking up for sales....sales usually does make an excellent living, usually at a loss to others. WTF? Huh? Loss to others? Wow....you clearly are an ignoramus. Listen up douchebag, if it wasn't for sales, stations wouldn't function -- salaries for the traffic, accounting etc, wouldn't get paid. It is apparent you are a behind the scenes pencil pusher who doesn't have a freakin clue as to what goes on when you're on the front lines schlepping a station...trying to reason with agencies, etc on why the ratings took a slump here, or there..or why the AQH isn't where it was last book, yadda, yadda yadda. Hey, how about trying to convince your clients (that you had to sing a different tune to previously) that this new format (that management just laid on you only a few hours earlier) is "super!" and is really "what the consumers want!" As most hard working honest reps there, I have earned every friggin dollar (of my six-figure income you jerk-wad) by being a CLOSER babe...something YOU obviously wouldn't know anything about.... (12/6/06)

Goodbye guys. Don and Mike, I have never said "goodbye", and have listened through it all, but you are no fun anymore. So it's back to traffic and weather on the 8, CNN and Howard (on my Sirius). Good luck, I won't be there. Kurt Foster (12/6/06)

My goodness, "Silvie"; please step slowly away from the radio and turn the volume down on WhiteMALe. Just what the hell does "looks Puerto Rican" mean? Did they teach only their most loyal listeners how to look at someone and determine race/nationality. ralph, manassas (12/6/06)

I hope everyone has a good holiday season.Don and Mike ,if you read this,I will be tuning in on the 2nd of Jan.Big fan here.I drive a truck around the beltway in the pm and love ta hear you guys.(I even named two of my turkeys Don and Mike.)We want B.A. back.Rob and Joe,,,Holidays here have a can of Becks Beer.Buzz,,well you do what you do. Mark in Bumpass,Va (12/6/06)

The WJZ CBS 13 phony story / Michael Richards blackface flub is just more proof WJZ is exactly as advertised.... "WJZ IS ALWAYS ON!", but on what I honestly don't know. I feel sorry for poor Sally Thorner that she has such a suck-ass news organization behind her. Meanwhile, in a completely unrelated story, Baltimore's WMAR 2 is now advertising "ABC2 NEWS IS ALWAYS ON!" Poor Brian Wood, what bad timing Scripps Howard has for that brand new clever marketing idea! I'm now convinced forever that the truth is not only stranger than fiction, but that its usually a whole lot funnier. Maybe some of those WBAL11 & FOX45 ad reps should donate some of that new found money to the homeless or something this month? (12/6/06)

Well by doggies all you former DnM tards with your open letter b8ll sh8t and declarations about oh how mad I is at DnM and I ain't never going listen again...since when did you think Don Juan ever gave a hoot about the listeners, come on now I'm thinking you numbnits are really as stewpid as Don Juan thinks you are....why you all be as bad as the window lickers over at the DnM forum...hey labonte little brown spot on tip of nose get a tissue for gawd's sake......I certainly enjoyed the hunting segment on the John Riggins show yesterday....I'll know if'en my truck conks out in Centrailia, Kansas to call Leon White for a tow or if Leon ain't in to call brother Harry.....hey ESPN wouldn't Mr. Riggins make a good host for "American Sportsmen" instead of Neon Dijon gone fishing with Dye-No-Mite!........What the Hell did ESPN do with Hank Parker and Bill Dance?.......and speaking about Root Boy, here's link to root boy store, they got special puke green t-shirt for crismus and at bottom of page "Xmas at Kmart" is for sale! www.rootboyslim.com ....now does anyone got Evan Johns and the H-Bombs and Please Mr Santa Claus?.......you know I found it kind of icky that Don Juan had to get his jerk on just a few months after the passing ............Bill Smith....Well I dunno, we dropped a lot of bombs on 'em (12/6/06)

Well, now you now it's REALLY over for the Redskins. Even XXX is bored with the team. Today at noon, Larry and his sidekick Giggles (er... Bram) spent about 10 minutes talking to local nobody palooka Jimmy Lang and his boxing match. Super. That's the kind of in depth coverage of the team, Bennett ZZZier's Redskins station gives the fans. And someday they think they can go "all-local?" Puh-lease. Try to fill your ONE hour first, with something fans care to hear. I guess Brandon Lloyd's impending suspension didn't rate above whatever tomato can Lange was due to punch. (12/6/06)

Oops..I mistook NBC4's weatherman, Steve Villanueva, for Ross the Intern on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. (12/6/06)

Don- Will you tell the truth? Do you know how to tell the truth? What tale will you weave when you get back? Try being honest...for once. You lost. You blinked. And sure I'll listen. Then when you do low budget jeopardy or honk for cash I'll tune out as always. Cheers, Jay (12/5/06)

Sorry if I mistook John Friese for Michael Flynn (or vice versa) on the report about the dead teenager in Occoquan. My apologies. Quite honestly, I can't tell the difference between the rookie men at NBC4 except perhaps Steve Villanueva, only because he looks Puerto Rican. -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/5/06)

"(and making an excellent living doing so)". Nice to see sales sticking up for sales. Your own words justify the earlier post. Sales indeed does make an excellent living, usually at a loss to others. I wonder how many CURRENT regular air talent, promotions, engineering and back office (traffic, cty, accounting) can say the same as you did. I wonder how many of those folks would post here to defend your 'excellent living'. (12/5/06)

Regarding the story on the handcuffed teenager who chose to jump into a river and the reporter trying his best to blame the police for the death..yes it was John Friese. He was on again tonight with an incredibly dumb twist on a school bus accident in Wheaton where thirteen teenagers were very slightly injured. Instead of concentrating on the accident and how it happened and interviewing the police this sad excuse for a reporter chose to glorify the use of cell phones by students and make viewers believe that cell phones some how saved the day. What crap. (12/5/06)

With new attention placed on NewsCable8 in the context of the Allbritton political paper/website launch, is there a way to find out a) who watches it, b) which cable systems still carry it and c) which cable systems actually run it on channel 8? Do they really think busy Hill staffers are going to stop what they are doing every afternoon to watch a cable tv show? Seems like the plan is to pitch it using smoke and mirrors to a less-than-savvy political media buying community. Considering the plan is to run a promotional half-hour every day at 3:30p, with repeats, the sales staff will have to be very clever to fill it with paid ads for advertisers other than aluminum siding, craftmatic beds, plumbers, save the children, hoveround and chia pets. (12/5/06)

Ya know…All you whining bitches will be back on Jan. 2nd. Don’t give me any “Goodbye Forevers”! BFD!! You had a little “Best Of”... IT’S A RADIO SHOW!! Get over it and get a life! See ya on the 2nd when you tune in to Don and Mike with me! SR in NoCal (12/5/06)

As of last Friday Cowboy of Whiskey and Cowboy of 96 rock wosc will be leaving radio to persue another career . His last day will be 12/15. (12/5/06)

Again....again.....the best thing Danny Boy Snyder could do to "improve" the Redskins' radio broadcasts....lose the damned delay.I listened for YEARS to Sonny Sam and Frank...and Larry....sigh....for years without ever hearing anything that offended my delicate widdle sensitivities.if anything.....I'm thorouhly offended by having to listen to utter lunkheads like Aikman or Mooseturd Johnston. This season is difficult enough without THAT to contend with as well. KJ, Laurel,MD (12/5/06)

An earlier poster forgot to list my favorite knocks on WJZ news: 1) The deliberate intent to deceive viewers by using present tense constructions when writing about past events and 2) the live shots from the tree in the parking lot (the same tree where the weather guy stands), just so the reporter can truthfully say "...live in Baltimore." That's all market 250 stuff. (12/5/06)

Dave, thanks so much for the story on Scott Fitzgerald/Tony Oles. I am very proud to call him a friend and it was through DCRTV that we re-connected. I am sure little Emma's parents will always hold a special place in their heart for Anthony (as he was known in our Shrine of the Little Flower days). Sorry Tony, couldn't help myself. I would like to see a feature story either in print or on television about radio personalities who hold other occupations in addition to their broadcast jobs. Better yet, it would make for some great discussion on DCRTV. Here's wishing everyone on the Mailbag a happy holiday. Blessings. Joyce Conroy (WHFC/WYTI). (12/5/06)

Regarding an earlier post, I believe the reporter who did the piece last night on Channel 4 regarding the handcuffed teenager who jumped from the bridge was John Friese (sp?), not Michael Flynn. -- Bobbie (12/5/06)

Dear Dave Loudin, Have you considered that the 50kW application for WDMV is merely a placeholder to assert control over the coverage and prevent incursions? It was probably impossible to get another extension of the CP for Damascus. They can let 540 fight the Damascus zoning battle. Should 540 succeed, my theory is that 700 will again get a CP to move there. Alternatively 700 may find another location for a move. The frequencies are too close to diplex with WXTR's proposed new site, but.... (12/5/06)

No new news. They already had a contract option for two more years. Past shows, Mike would try to bait Don to go past the '08 date. Jim "Davis, CA" (12/5/06)

Soooo, you're back on 1/2/06, huh? Well, get ready for a HELL of a show as probably a LOT of listeners will be asking WHY THE HELL YOU DID WHAT YOU DID?! Oh, and don't expect any forgiving and forgeting from former long-time listeners, like me, who were ticked off from this. And, expect them to be arguing with listeners since they still have the "no screening" policy, which is maybe one reason why this crap started. SO, hopefully, even though this probably never came up, Mike Hughes and friends talked to them about this during their apparent contract-extension talks. If you screened, prehaps you wouldn't have these technical problems you keep having. But that probably takes away the ENTERTAINMENT value of the show doesn't it. ASSHATS! - Kevin G from Eastern NC (12/5/06)

As a fan of Don & Mike I wish it would not have come to this, but I have to agree with everyone else. The way they treated their fans with this recent stunt is too much for me. I will not be tuning in on 1/2/07. I wish them well, but my days of supporting the show are gone. Patrick J (12/5/06)

The poster heaping scorn on WDMV needs to keep a couple of things in mind: 1) the contour shown in the WXTR filing is the 25 mV signal for the 25 kW upgrade, not the typical 0.5 mV which is used for marketing (no problem, so far). 2) the contour on WDMV's site is likely the 0.5 mV signal of the 25 kW upgrade, not the current 5kW plant (OK, dirty trick). Go see radio-locator for that. Wait, better yet, see the recently filed application for 50 kW here and here. I wish them luck, but I still wonder the wisdom of upgrading a station that will still have virtually no drivetime service in the winter. Regards, Dave Loudin (12/5/06)

Re: "I have a real good feeling that Don G. is going to have a horrible year in 2007. Bad Karma follows bad people and he is truly one of the most despicable human beings around." Wow - talk about a mouth-breathing cretin who both takes a little afternoon radio show a lil too seriously AND doesn't know the first thing about "karma." Here's a hint...wishing bad karma on someone isn't necessarily the first step in achieving good karma for yourself. Sheeesh. Lighten up, you tools. (12/5/06)

Somebody wrote, "What's worse is when you have to kiss their ass and act like you care about everything they say". Its bad enough to have to do this at home, but then get stuck doing it all day at work, too....now, THAT SUCKS! :) (12/5/06)

Wow, what I great gift I get on my birthday, Don and Mike comeback to do a live show. I plan to be sleeping the whole day, though. SORRY D&M! (12/5/06)

Dave's response: Other people born on 1/2 include Dennis Hastert and Jim Bakker. Maybe not the best "karma of a day" to do one's grand return.....

That’s awesome WJZ ran that story, especially as breaking news. I’ve said many times before that station is a joke, from calling themselves “baltimore’s news station” to promoting the hell out of their stupid website to tossing back and forth amongst anchors to the newsroom. That place sucks, how can you be “baltimore’s news station when you’re not first in ratings? Wasn’t there an article a short time ago praising WJZ and how they’ve closed the gap? Whoops .. and by the way, stop posting all the D+M comments, tired and skimming through all that garbage. --- Tom (12/5/06)

Whooopeee.. D&M has a new contract. At this point it is irrelevant for me. Not having the simple courtesy to simply say "D&M are off the air during contract negoations." That would have done the job. Some of these post about Don's wife etc... are not appropriate. However, as a loyal listener for years I've supported the show the fullest. From the Las Vegas Style shows, strip-trivia, and others. But at this point I'm through with D&M. Afer several weeks the new announcement is a too little, too late. When those ratings drop...I'm sure JFK will have them out of there in 2008. I'm no longer a fan of the show. Later BM Eaters. (12/5/06)

Finally, a change on the D&M website: now in blue, it says "01-02-07 THE RETURN!" (12/5/06)

I was so upset when I saw the Fat Boys get a contract through 2010. I was honestly looking forward to them being gone!!!! HA! More mediocre radio for another 3 years. UGH. (12/5/06)

Don & Mike you will be back January 2, 2007. The big question you need to ask yourselves is will we be back. Not me, Not this time. ASSHATS!!!! (12/5/06)

"Well, Don only took off three weeks after Freda died." I have been a long time listener of the show and admit I find Don's exchanges with his girlfriend to be quite awkward - almost like he's found a new cog in the show to replace the missing one. Its awkward, it's weird after years of Freda, and I wish he'd just leave her off the air. That said, this latest 2 month vacation really is pretty much the nail in the coffin. Their material was getting pretty bitter (how many Don tirades and Mike brownnosing responses can you take in a week? A day? An hour???) and with them gone for two months its time to find another station. Good luck in your future D&M, but I can assure you you'll be one listener short when you come back... (12/5/06)

Do you all have any idea why Don and Mike are not on in the afternoon and on the website it says will be back in January? Is someone ill? Or did they get into trouble? Susan (12/5/06)

I have a real good feeling that Don G. is going to have a horrible year in 2007. Bad Karma follows bad people and he is truly one of the most despicable human beings around. Toasting you on 12/31! Can’t wait for the next walkout in 2007. Don’t worry, no one will care. Hahahahaahahahah! Respectfully Yours, Jeff (12/5/06)

So now D&M are bribing us with $521 of left over money to listen to the "Best Of?" Maybe there's money left over because YOU DIDN'T FINISH WORKING OUT THE DAMN YEAR!!!!! Sorry boys, not going to work this time...GO TO HELL! Greg in Reisterstown, MD. (12/5/06)

Whoopee! Heard on the Sean Hannity radio program last night a debate on THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS! Sean said a nativity scene was banned in Chicago, but the city council is denying it. How dare they deny it" Sean said. Then, Sean had a debate on THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS between a normal God fearing Christian (a great American), and a commie from Americans United for Separation of Church and State. The commie said THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS didn't exist, and went on to babble about Supreme Court rulings that allowed Christmas songs and Christian displays under non "in your face" circumstances. Sean, being the Great American that he is, quickly put the guy in his place by asking if we should have "In God We Trust" on U.S. Coins. Way to go, Sean, THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS needs great Americans like you on the right side of this issue. Sean then turned down the commie's mike level because, I think, the guy was a commie. The good God fearing Christian then talked about how the government needs Christianity, and Christmas should be a way for the government to spread goodwill. He, like Sean, is a great American. I think it is time for Jeff Gannon, (or Paul Guckert-whatever his name is), you know, the guy Sean Hannity said was "A terrific White House Bureau Chief," to come out of hiding and take THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS to the White House once again. Mr. Gannon, another great American, needs to set the record straight (for lack of a better term with respect to Mr. Gannon) and ask Tony Snow questions about how the President feels about THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS, and Hillary Clinton and the liberal Democrats' wrong position on it. Now that it is December, President Bush, a great American except for his immigration ideas, has five wars going on concurrently: Iraqi Freedom, War in Afghanistan, War on Terror, War against the liberals, and, now, THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS. Everyone have a Merry Christmas, and God Bless Sean Hannity for being a great American and for standing on the right side of THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS. And, by the way, Dave, you are not a great American, you are a lib. Sylvie in Waldorf; you are a great American. Listen to WMAL for more information on THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS; now, more than ever. (12/5/06)

I think this might be the likeliest D&M scenario - D&M walk off the air because of failing phone equipment and angst fueled by overall dissatisfaction with CBS radio. This violates the terms of their existing contract and I suspect that CBS called them on it telling them to return to the air the next day. However, given the ego of D&M they probably refused and stated that they would only return to the air after some contract negotiations. Chances are they probably got a better deal than what they had but CBS is probably forcing them to stay on the air until 2010, not 2008 like D&M originally wanted. It's pretty clear to anyone who listens to the show on a regular basis that D&M weren't enjoying what they were doing and were looking forward to "retirement." I find it hard to believe that they would want to extend their contract. Regarding not airing a new show until 2007, I think that's just cheap and is basically a big "fuck you" to D&M fans UNLESS, there is something more at play here behind the scenes like a new time slot, etc... (12/5/06)

Yeah, Don must really be a fool. He gets a couple of extra weeks off and a possible contract extension. Maybe some peoples' bosses wouldn't give them a new contract after walking out because those people are easily replaceable. Don obviously brings in the ad dollars or he would be rebooting his computer at his cubicle too. And as for comments about Don's girlfriend, that is just a cheap shot about something people know nothing about - Don says she is a good earner and I believe him. - Signed Loyal D&M Fan and Kool Aid Drinker - VegasJack (12/5/06)

I’ve been listening to D&M since they were picked up in Reno faithfully from Day 1. I’ve been to their live shows when they came out west to show my support for a show I truly loved. But this whole walkout thing has soured me to the boys beyond repair. It seems to me that they should have taken care of contractual things and scheduling requests behind closed doors. This is the most unprofessional display I have ever witnessed in all my life. In a comparison Don would identify with, this is beyond Terrel Owens unprofessional. To leave the whole D&M fanbase twisting in the wind for nearly 2 full months literally feels like a slap in the face. Sorry D&M, but this stunt has left a taste in my mouth I can’t get rid of. Good-bye… (12/5/06)

To all of you D&M haters out there. If they were so bad why do you think CBS would reward them with an extended contract and more than likely more money? The only reason I can think of is that CBS thinks they deliver ratings and advertising revenue, period. You don't keep people around who don't deliver. Cole (12/5/06)

My brother called me and said JFK is advertising the return of D&M on Jan. 2. Will be interesting to see how the fatmen...lie...err spin their way out of their 2 month vacation. Always fun to see fat guys dance on the head of a pin. (12/5/06)

RE: I would suggest if the writer of that message thinks radio sales people are overcompensated, they should try it sometime. What's the old saying, "Those that can't, teach". Well, "those who don't have a clue, criticize". I say right on! Having been in the radio sales world for 13+ years (and making an excellent living doing so) , I agree whole heartedly with this post. People who aren't in the business seem to think it's some easy gig - WRONG! You've got to schmooze clients at lunch, and sometimes dinner. What's worse is when you have to kiss their ass and act like you care about everything they say. It's a never ending grind, and you're only as good as your last sale....no wonder so many ad (radio and TV) like to hit the bottle! Even when you hit your monthly budgets, they still want more...more. So...to the know it all who thinks he's the inside scoop on how it all works, I say go TRY to get a sales gig at a top station and get back to us... (12/5/06)

If anybody still cares, those "Don & Mike" people have removed their "WTF" and have instead listed their return as 1/02/07. (12/5/06)

I would imagine that more XM/Serious radios were sold just this past weekend than all the HD radios ever sold since day one. This is the first Christmas season that HD radio have been even sorta available. It's still the early days of HD. Note heavy promotion that Crutchfield is (NOT) giving HD. (12/5/06)

Can someone go back & pull the tape from a few years ago of Don Geronimo saying, on the air, "We are done at the end of this contract. No more." Yet here we are today learning about yet another contract extension for them, now thru 2010. That new girlfriend of Don's must be running thru his money pretty quick. By the way, how is it that the phone equipment fails for them, they walk off of their show (likely in a violation of their previous contract), and yet they get rewarded with a contract extension? I don't think the boss has ever come over & said, "Hey, sorry your computer wouldn't boot up this morning. Why don't you take 8 weeks off, and when you come back accept this huge guaranteed raise with our sincere apologies that your computer wouldn't work for a couple of days". WTF? WTF is right. More like WTF was CBS Radio thinking? But I guess with this new extended contract of D&M's, WJFK is happy staying in 16th place overall (5th or 6th in the afternoons) for another 4+ years to come. And ultimately, I guess Don came to the realization that his proclamations of "We'll be #1 by..." weren't exactly happening on schedule, and now realizes that he probably needs another 4 year contract to try & get back to #1. Sorry, Don, you'll never be #1 in the afternoons again, no matter how long your contract is extended. I can't wait to see the Fall books, which will take into account their walk off & subsequent absence without comment. (12/5/06)

"What's Geraldo doing here?" That's exactly what Bryan Nehman said this morning on WMAL after spotting Geraldo Rivera down the hall from the studio shortly after 8:30. Was Geraldo preparing an investigative piece on someone at the station? -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/5/06)

Dave's response: Someone told Geraldo that there was a Hooters in WMAL's building.....

The NFL Broadcast rules are bs and are very outdated. Rarely are doubleheaders seen in places like New York. Oh wait, I have Sunday Ticket, so this doesn't apply. (12/5/06)

WXTR's technical proposal is refreshing, at least for its objectivity regarding other local stations. Compare the barebones basic pattern of WDMV (PAGE 26, svartifoss2.fcc.gov) with the optimistically overblown puffery shown on the WDMV website (www.dcradio700.com). If that is "proposed" coverage, then please say so. Otherwise, there's a tree full of loud crows 1/2 mile from my house that has greater coverage than WDMV - and doubtless, more listeners. (12/5/06)

Interesting to note that XM and Sirius sales have slumped while Radio Shack and other retailers report brisk sales of the HD radios, especially the Accurian. (12/5/06)

I have to agree with one of the past posts. GIVE US ONE SHOW BEFORE CHRISTMAS. I MEAN COME ON Don and I leave Mike out just because Don is the one who calls the shots and makes these dumb decisions to leave his audience in the cold for over a month. You had loyal listners but I honestly think you have lost a ton of them. Mike, Buzz and Rob I wish you happy holidays but as for you Mr. Grinch Geranimo go to hell. SF Waldorf MD (12/5/06)

Somebody wrote, "Sales folks leaving voluntarily is not always a bad sign." The entire message from this poster is off base and uninformed. Apparently it is written from the point of view of someone who has never been in sales. Having had the good fortune to have been an on-air person and a sales person and sales manager, I have seen all sides of programming and sales, for better and for worse. To criticize salespeople for taking a client to lunch at The Palm shows a total misunderstanding of the marketplace. Clients and ad agencies often strongly suggest that you take them to these places. The original poster goes further into the realm of absurdity by suggesting that the sales people arent paid on collections. For those who paid on sales, they almost always have to pay back commission if the station does not receive payment in 90 days......and then the sales rep loses the commission, even if the client/agency pays it later! The cost of entertaining clients is a cost of doing business in every business, not just radio. I would suggest if the writer of that message thinks radio sales people are overcompensated, they should try it sometime. Whats the old saying, "Those that can't, teach". Well, "those who don't have a clue, criticize". (12/5/06)

Your prediction is off Dave. Promo ran for Don and Mike to return on January 2.. (12/5/06)

Dave's response: I think I did acknowledge my errant guess in an earlier response.....

I'll still only listen to 3:05 and then get sick of their bitching and whining about all the speculation. (12/5/06)

Hi Dave, I used to work with Dave Marcum at WGRX in Baltimore 12 years ago (damn, it was that long ago). Jack Taylor sent an email in response to my message to the Mailbag, and I haven't spoken to him in probably 10 years when we all got blown out with the Froggy format change.... Geo in Parkville (12/5/06)

Check out this at WUSA Ch 9... PROGRAM ALERT: Per NFL rules, stations are not allowed to air NFL games against the home team at home. Although 12/10/06 is a doubleheader date for CBS, W*USA 9 is only allowed to air a 4pm game since the Redskins play at home at 1pm on FOX. W*USA 9 would always prefer to air two football games but we must abide to NFL broadcast rules. (12/5/06)

To Geo in Parkville: If this is who I think it is…..yes it is the one and same Dave Marcum…….I had the pleasure of working with Dave (and Ron for a bit) doing their traffic and then joining Dave doing mornings as his co-host, with Theresa Blythe doing news after MaryAnn Perry headed to LITE, until the format change to FROGGY…..Dave and I crossed paths again while I was at Metro Networks and he was producing Murphy and Cash and we had a chance to kinda catch up on things ! My DEEPEST condolences to his family……….Captain Jack, WGRX-FM…. now just Jack Taylor @ XM Radio. Jack Taylor (12/5/06)

Well it looks like the former Mrs. O'Mearas will now be set now through 2010....I don't see how these two walking off the show ends in a new contract for them. CBS must be the best company to work for in the history of the world....WB Centreville, VA (12/5/06)

Sales folks leaving voluntarily is not always a bad sign. Radio has long grossly overcompensated sales folks and generally not held them accountable in the same commission-on-collection methodology as used in other industries. It is why so many stations suffer in programming, promotions, engineering and community service. Sales folks tend to get paid off the gross prior to collection or accouting for the cost of sales beyond dinner at The Palm and thus there is no money left for necessary expenses . Even when that is not true, they tend to not be debited for the cost of delayed payment regardless of the loss to the station. As radio operators learn how to run a business properly, sales egos are often a casualty. It is when programming people leave voluntarily in significant numbers that one should worry about the health of the company. (12/5/06)

WHAT? IT CAN'T BE!! Uncle Mel is running a ship that is having trouble? Not retaining subscribers, not signing up new ones in spite of high priced talent? Having trouble selling the product? Costs in the last quarter are running ahead of revenue projections from the previous quarter, which were based upon servicing an expanding customer base that did not happen? Cutting costs is having an adverse impact due to increased cost of operations from delayed necessities? This has never happened before under his watch. YEAH RIGHT. Here is how this is going to play out. Mel will keep talking about a merger,,,which means he wants XM to buy Sirius so he can get his money out, and then appoint him to an advisory role, so that he can claim he purchased XM and then will force out their board even though Sirius was the one purchased. If there is any truth to the rumors of a merger, XM better start downsizing their plant by 75% now so Mel won't be able to pull his stunts there, and maybe he will get outed this time. Mel has been doing this for the last 20 years, and Wall Street has yet to figure it out. Then again, Michael Jordan didn't see it coming either, but Sumner Redstone did and derailed that train before it wrecked his company totally. D&M also forgot that Uncle Mel is no longer running the show at their house, and this time their temper tantrum lost. I bet D&M got hit with a BOC charge and their 'new' contract isn't so lucrative now either. (12/5/06)

I heard Russ Parr talking about how their regular news person Shelia has been out sick for awhile and he thanked Mack Davis for filling in. Again, I listen to him on the Tom Joynor Morning Show, so I only hear him on WKYS when my son hits the button for "his music". But, I think Mack is darn good. But, along with everyone else, I hope their regular newsperson gets better. As long as I can hear Mack and "my music" with Tom. Herb/Bethesda (12/5/06)

I was wondering if that was the same Dave Marcum I worked with at 'GRX. It was the Dave and Ron Show, with Dave Marcum and Ron Benton. Dave was a great guy to work with, I just don't remember him being that involved with country music. Haven't spoken to him since '94. Either way, very sad...condolences to the rest of the family. Geo in Parkville (12/5/06)

An open letter to Don and Mike from a 40 year old fan that has listened since he was 18. In way of an apology, at least have the decency to do one show before Christmas and have Charlie read the Hamburger James story. Signed: A long time fan who is not feeling very forgiving. (12/5/06)

Well, Don only took off three weeks after Freda died. But a glitch in the phone system gets him a two-month vacation and a new contract! Looks like those temper-tantrums literally pay off eh Doni? Congrats on the new contract to the Sopranos of radio. (12/5/06)

OK, Don and Mike signed a new deal. Whoopie. Don will be raking in more cash while his aging material will attract fewer and fewer listeners. But, he'll have to spend the first few months of next year attempting to build back the audience he left in the dust (screwed) in early November with his on air/off air pout. The listeners are leaving, the advertisers are leaving, at least the one's with any brains. That's not hard to figure out. But why Michael Hughes didn't fire Geronimo's tired old fast ass is the great mystery here. I don't get it. I won't be listening in January. I'm done with Don and Mike. - Al in Gaithersburg (12/5/06)

Dave Marcum also worked at "The Classic Rock" WGRX I believe in 1993 - 1994. He was a part of the morning show, I can't recall who the co-host was. It was prior ro Marshell and Maxwell when the station went to "The X". Prayers to his family and friends. (12/5/06)

QUOTE: "Heck I live in Delaware, and would drive west an extra few miles and park just to get a better signal". D&M will lose a true fan like you, but they don't care. QUOTE 2: "shows some bozo reporter being handcuffed sitting in a police car trying to figure some way to blame the police." I saw that report, by NBC4's Michael Flynn, and it was pathetic. Flynn was strapped on (with a seatbelt, not with a real strap-on) in the front seat of a police cruiser and handcuffed at the same time, trying to maneuver himself out to see if he could let his seatbelt loose. You're too kinky, Mike! (P.S. Doesn't Flynn look like John Mark Karr a bit?) -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/5/06)

Clear Channel announced its new commission plan this past Friday. How many Sales Reps have left the company since the announcement? I believe the count is 4-5 but I'm not sure. Where are the next cuts taking place? (12/5/06)

re: "WAMU's program changes mean it will broadcast two programs (Fresh Air and The World) earlier than WETA; possibly we are seeing a response to local competition." The bigger story is WAMU slapping NPR in the face by dropping Talk of the Nation. The message: your flagship talk show is not good enough for the nation's capitol. (12/5/06)

Just saw a commercial for DARCARS w/Tammy Darvish..She's had a SERIOUS makeover..Hardly recognized her..I remember when the Koons lady got a makeover..Didn't recognize her either.. (12/5/06)

Dave: I know D&M rip on you excessively and often with great exaggeration. So I don't blame you for taking swipes back at them on your board (I'd probably take more of them if I were you!). But I think it was wrong to take a shot at Mike in a comment under the story about he & his restaurant raising thousands of charity dollars to help adults and children who have been burned in fires. I was there and a lot of good people worked hard to raise that money, including a group of 9/11 firemen who were there from New York City. I'm sure the people that money is going to help don't care if a fat jerk or an altruistic super model raised that money; they're grateful for the help. Yes, D&M can be real jerks but when they do something good show a little respect and save the fat jokes for the numerous other posts on them you receive every day. (12/5/06)

If The Daniel is interested in buying the 106.7 fm for his Dreadskin's would that really solve the coverage problems? Ain't there areas of D.C. area that wjfk does not reach? I presume that if the Daniel did buy a proper radio station for his needs he'd unload the 3 he bought. Wouldn't the Big Tuna in this picture be WMAL?....BTWS, I think it sucks WMAL doesn't stick with Terrapin post game stuff!.........saw news blurb at Radio Daily News that the HD Radio Alliance will be spending upwards of $250 million for advertising of HD radio...d9mn that seems like serious money, where's it all coming from and do broadcasters forsee a big return of investment for HD radio? btws here's link to HD radio site and it provides info on HD radio's and a directory of station's across the country that have HD channels www.hdradio.com .........you know what's disturbing me about DnM most likely returning on Elvis' birtday is that we will be deprived of Tom Gavin playing the part of the lil' baby jesus in the Ham and Eggs Production of the First Noel...perhaps Mr. Gavin can do it on his WEBR radio show Wednesdays from 1-3 pm.....Bruce Chanel....... so this is Xmas, ,and what have you done?, another year over (12/5/06)

Glad to see that somebody else started ripping WASH’S “24 Songs Of Christmas” playlist. Not only are they playing around thirty songs, some of them are downright horrible. Hellooooooo, “Christmas Shoes”? Hey, kid, your mother’s feeling better, and she just left town with three sailors. Hope you can return those shoes, you little punk. Sincerely, TMU (12/4/06)

CBS GM Michael Hughes in translation...... "We interrupt this previously unscheduled Don & Mike holiday vacation for their previously scheduled holiday vacation which will be ending soon, just before their MLK Day holiday vacation which will have some surprising twists. Don will claim he's black and storm off of the set because CBS is a racist company, but things will work out when they re-up their contracts up until Presidents Day! YAY! Shhhh, I shouldn't have let that one out just yet. But don't worry, many other holiday vacation surprises will be coming soon lapdogs! Don & Mike sincerely thank you all from their 25 weeks-a-year timeshare in Cancun. And, as always, enjoy the re-run non-laughs and of course, HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE from THE DON & MIKE SHOW!" :-) (12/4/06)

Former Murphy and Cash producer Dave Marcum passes away at age 52. From AllAccess: "DAVE MARCUM, a radio personality for over 30 years at numerous stations around the country and most recently host of a morning show for ABC's REAL COUNTRY, died yesterday (12/3) following a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 52. Should friends desire, memorials may be given to COMMUNITY HOSPICE OF TEXAS for HOSPICE HOUSE WEST." Dave Marcum was friendly, upbeat and loved radio. He even owned a small radio station in Kentcuky at one point in his career. Glad I knew him. Bob in Tampa (12/4/06)

I do not care anymore. Don and Mike really disapointed me this time. I have a Sirius, but used to turn it off at three... heck I live in Delaware, and would drive west an extra few miles and park just to get a better signal. BOO- HOO they are mean and complain soo much, I AM GONE. i am sure they dont care anyway. Buy Buy Losers (12/4/06)

(can't think of anything to post yourself."YAWN".............Bill Smith....bite me) NOT MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THE OLD HACKS, IS THERE, ASS??-DAVE (12/4/06)

Isn't time for the tv stations to give this story in Virginia, where the sixteen year old boy jumped over the bridge, a rest? Channel 4's breathless reporters are almost begging for someone to come forward to blame the police when the death of this kid was obviously his own fault. The Washington Post, to their credit, spelled it out this morning. His mother paid for him to be smuggled into the country, he was caught and ignored a court date, he was expelled from school, enrolled in another and dropped out within a week, drove a car regularly even though he didn't have a license, was drinking beer in his own house, drove at 3:20 in the morning which is illegal in Virginia, drove drunk at 90 mph, and was caught. Then he manages to get out of the police car and jump over a bridge into the river. So what part of all this does channel 4 mention? That he managed to get out of the police car and shows some bozo reporter being handcuffed sitting in a police car trying to figure some way to blame the police. (12/4/06)

one more gripe about all xmas on WASH...I swear 3 times in the last 2 weeks, Ive turned it on and heard Little F'n Drummer Boy! Not only that, but I heard different versions of it in the same hour! Come on! there must be more of a variety you can use besides playing the same song twice in one hour! (12/4/06)

RE: "Ckeck out the mits on Mike O'meara. What are they DD or DDD? " Jeezus. Throttle back on the Guinness and hot wings, Mike. Your man-mams make the rest of those snapper look like bee-stung 6th graders. Here, have a rice cake....... (12/4/06)

Dave's response: From the neck down, Mike O'Meara looks like a full-figured 65-year-old woman with rather large breasts. That's pathetic for a man in his mid-40s. Mike, I'm just saying this because I care.....

So I guess the Junkies were telling the truth when they guaranteed they weren't going anywhere. It never made sense why the station would want those guys to move. Didn't they choose them over Don and Mike less than a year ago. Why move them now? Aren't they doing better than all of the Stern replacements across the country? It sure sounds like a failed Geronimo power play to me. I asked the Junkies through email if they were moving and JP said no directly. That's part of what makes those guys sucessful. They are just like us. They answer their own emails. I bet Don and Mike haven't answered a listener email in show history. Jay (12/4/06)

WJFK said , D and M , come back live Jan 2. (1/4/06)

Dave's response: Gee, I really thought they'd round out the post-New Years Day week and come back on Monday the 8th.....

I saw your story that they were renewed until 2010. When will they be back on the air live? (1/4/06)

Dave's response: Wild guess - Monday, 1/8.....

WJZ-13 ran this story as FACT in their 4pm and 5pm newscasts on Monday, December 4th. datelinehollywood.com (12/4/06)

Hey looks like someone else smells fish other than Granny with regards to DnM! (12/4/06)

Do you people who dislike Dan Snyder take Redsins losses as a consolation prize because those chronic losses probably stick in his craw like an ice pick through his brain? (12/4/06)

What makes you think that the memo from Michael Hughes is real? Why would CBS just casually let D&M take a couple months off without a presser or something that lets fans of the show at least know when to expect the guys back on the air. I still think something smells fishy here. (12/4/06)

Hey Dave, just thought I should mention that when your latest D&M item was crossposted to the RadioGodsForum site, one of its members replied with the line: "Arent Hotmail addresses fun to play with *wink*" -- so if your latest scoops happened to eminate from there, might be worth taking with a grain or two of salt... (12/4/06)

Dave's response: Man, those RGF guys really monitor this site. Rupert is honored.....

Don has desperately wanted mornings and this was his last powerplay to try to get it? Threatening to quit? So pathetic. Looks like CBS Radio called his bluff and he's back to his old boring timeslot. Enjoy. (12/4/06)

With Don and Mike taking off for over a month, and nobody telling listeners anything, I think this shows how important Don and Mike are to CBS radio. But also, it shows how important Don and Mike's listeners are to Don and Mike. I would hope that the rest of their former listeners would continue what they are doing now, and not listen to them should they ever return. Spoiled Brat Primadonnas don't really deserve the respect of anyone. Hopefully some of the affiliates will now cancel the show, since D&M can't be relied on to show up let alone deliver decent ratings. (12/4/06)

Didn't we beat to death WXTR's application to move xmtr location back when it was filed on October 20th? (12/4/06)

Dave's response: I ran an update blurb because we had a new link to the original upgrade document. Hey, at least it's a diversion from all the D&M stuff.....

So, Don & Mike lost out on a power play for morning drive. Who would have thought that the Junkies were so valuable to WJFK? (12/4/06)

Ckeck out the mits on Mike O'meara. What are they DD or DDD? (12/4/06)

WAMU's program changes mean it will broadcast two programs (Fresh Air and The World) earlier than WETA; possibly we are seeing a response to local competition... (12/4/06)

Hi all, still curious about the apparently pirate "elevator music" station, 104.7FM, heard only within about a mile of the Rosslyn, Courthouse, Clarendon corridor. Been listening for around 2 weeks now, and it's all music, or "Muzak" perhaps? They're now throwing in a few holiday tunes now & then. Anybody got any guesses where it's coming from? I'm so mellow and productive at work now, it's creepy. B (12/4/06)

Today’s 3:02 p.m. special for the Christmas season: “Silent Night”, from the Blind Boys of Alabama, from their CD, “Go Tell It On The Mountain.” I love my iPod and my speakers. I love them more on just these occasions, when D&M have their heads jammed up their rears. Sincerely, TMU (12/4/06)

Dave, we'll all be the first to admit it, you get a bum rap on D&M. But with the post about the ex-Redskins cheerleader at O'Mera's your response was about Mike going braless?? This is just giving them fodder. Why even bring that up, that's totally off topic, and just a pointless jab at Mike, and frankly as one of your daily readers, it really makes me think about the way you run your post. That's completely unprofessional and just plain dumb looking on your part. And I'm sure this post won't make it to the Mailbag page since I'm knocking you here. Normally I think D&M use you the way Howard used CBS, it's always entertaining to have an enemy to rant on. But after this, it just proves them right, why would you do that? (12/4/06)

CBS did this to Opie and Anthony, and now they are doing it to Don and Mike. I just listened to the last live segment from November 13, and it’s obvious that this has turned into a pissing match between Geronimo/O’Meara and CBS management. I don’t expect to see Don and Mike live on 106.7 ever again. However, they will get an audience again someday, more than likely on satellite. They will probably sit for 18 months, just like O&A had to. It’s sad, because some of the BEST radio that comes from them anymore is when they go behind the scenes. CBS is hardly stunting—they are just doing damage control with subsidiary Westwood One internally, and the affiliates—while looking for decent filler. It’s no coincidence that the Hideout is testing this week. Oh—and Kane on Hot 99.5 rocks! Josh in St. Pete, FL (12/4/06)

OK, I'm probably one of 3 D&M fans left who will wait patiently for their return. I'm working from home this afternoon, so I actually had the rare opportunity to listen to the first few minutes of today's show. As we know, still "Best of...", but interesting that they played a tidbit about returning to NY. You know, not them talking about it, but some quote from Larry from the Corner, or some other radio dee-jay. Coincidence? Yes, Silvie, it's somewhat of a joke. I did hear the bit, but I'm not buying it as the reason. I buy the moving to WARW or WJFK mornings, though I think it's WARW because CBS would be foolish to leave O&A in tape delay even though I'm not a fan. TL (12/4/06)

NEW RUMOR: Don and Mike leave CBS to Host Jew to Jew on the XM's new Hanukkah channel! (12/4/06)

Congratulations to the two account execs and the national sales coordinator who escaped from Bob Philips' CBS Baltimore chamber of horrors last week. Each will soon experience improved physical and emotional health (if they haven't already). (12/4/06)

I'm stumped, Dave. Why would Rush Limbaugh revealing his middle name today (Hudson) warrant a "rant" from you? Is this worth ranting for? Best, -Silvie in Waldorf- (12/4/06)

Dave's response: Just poking fun at the terminally pompous.....

I believe channel 26 WETA hit rock bottom with it's infomercials/ fundraising on Saturday morning.....I swear to gawd jack it was a progrum on constipation and how to improve your bowel movements....and they showed numbnuts in audience taking notes...I mean we're talking about bowel movements....geez channel 26 just bag it and run the creepy looking Dual Action Cleanse dude.....say anyone smell fresh hot biscuits? this posting brought to you by the fine folks at "biscuitville"....Bill Smith....to the nail salon, jeeves....has anyone had the dream about Rev. Joyce Meyer in a two piece bathing suit and rubbing sun tan lotion all over your body? (12/4/06)

Dave's response: Gee, it sounds like WJFK-FM's weekend programming.....

Re: Burd & Webb Share Friendship. That explains Burd VERY obnoxious behavior on the air early Sat morning. A member of his ‘staff” tried to offer a different opinion about the Webb/Bush incident and he actually cut his mike off, after asking his opinion. Talk about ball-less. I actually enjoy David and even have a “listener #”. But that was just wrong. However Burd did “kind of of “ apologized later but never let “Island Boy” finish. I have one question for him or Webb. How do you think Webb’s son and his fellow Marines felt about this exchange w/ his/their Commander and Chief and his comment about “punching” him. (12/4/06)

In reference to the disappearing Don and Mike...they need to get off of their high horses and do their f-ing jobs...what a couple of whining babies! I've been a loyal listener since '86, but enough's enough. If I want the "best of" day after day, I'd go to their website...for Christ's sakes, at least play some Major Bill stuff if you're going to make us wait out your little temper tantrums. Either get back in the sandbox and play nice, or just pack up your toys and go home! (12/4/06)

Those programmiong changes at WAMU? That's a big yawn. What a lot of nothing and paid for in partt by our taz dollars. Jeeze!!!!!! (12/4/06)

Dave's response: Speaking of "public" media, will someone at the FCC please let 22 and 26 run ads. That would be far preferable to those absolutely horrid pledge break "infomercials" that pop up every few weeks. Sheesh.....

In reply to "THE PERFECT WJFK LINEUP": Unfortunately, FM has no static at all. S. Dan (12/4/06)

THE PERFECT WJFK LINEUP: Static (5-10 am); Static (10 am - 1 pm); Static (1-3 pm) ; Static (3-7 pm); Static (7-8 pm); Static (8 pm - Midnight); Static (12-2am); Static (2 - 4 am); Static (4-5am). Basically, just turn off the transmitter. (12/4/06)

I just think Don and Mike weold be better without Don. He treats Mike like crap and if I was Mike I would be a little tired of his crap also. I listened before and after Freda passed away and he is still and will probably always be a big jerk to his listners and people he works with. SF Waldorf MD (12/4/06)

Whilst waiting in a line for a carwash I heard an interesting snip from one of last week's Ron and Fez shows on XM. JDubs called into the show and Ron Bennington asked him "What was up with Don and Mike". JDubs (hmm, maybe it was El Hefe...) said he had been in touch with "Mike' (Sorce?) but he said he didn't know what was up with them. Ronnie B. said he had heard a time change or station change was rumored. JDubs/ElHefe then said "can you believe WJFK is making us audition after working there for three f**kin' years?". Don't know the air date of the conversation last week, the "best of" Ron and Fez broadcasts aren't indexed or identified other than "Best of the Week". On a related topic, I don't see D&M on satrad - what would motivate XM for Sirius to hire them? XM is full of regional talkers on channels 152 - D&M would do better if they could simulcast on satrad - but I don't think they have any national drawing power. As Howard and Ron & Fez can tell you, the freedom of un-regulated satrad comes at a heavy price for egotistical broadcasters - and that price is a hugely diminished audience. Take Ron & Fez, as much as I like them, their national audience is probably a tiny fraction of their listener base in their New York heyday, before being banished to WJFK. Seven million XM customers times 100+ competing channels times three time zones times a small three hour window each day equals a relatively tiny audience. Do one of 70 XM customers listen to Ron & Fez each day? Not likely, maybe one in 700. So, who is going to pay D&M $2/3/4 million per year to be on satellite? DA_PJ_DJ_in_VA. (12/4/06)

Do we really miss Don & Mike?? I don't. Do we care that they won't be back until 2007? I don't. This recent departure from the air is the last straw for me. I think I can find something else to listen to on the radio. Good Bye Don & Mike. Patrick (Hold Music Guy) in Elkridge (12/4/06)

Dave, why do you insist on letting D&M use you like this? Why let them get their word out through your web site? Does anyone really believe that they can't post an update on their own website? You know that when/if they get back on the air it will only be a couple of days before its "Rupert this...and Rupert that.." and that they will only berate and demean the people who post here...I love em as much as anyone here...but you know that Don isn't to be trusted...Anyway, here's my ultimate WJFK daily lineup.... 6:00 - 10:00 am Goss's Garage... 10:00am - 1:00 pm The Bald Truth... 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Suck This w/Rob Spewak... 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm D &M... 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm The Junkies... WB, Centreville, Va (12/4/06)

THE PERFECT WJFK LINEUP: The Junkies (5-10 am); Opie and Anthony (10 am - 1 pm; tape delayed); Ron and Fez (1-3 pm; live); Don and Mike (3-7 pm); Penn Jillette (7-8 pm); The Hideout (8 pm - Midnight); Loveline (12-2am); Bill O'Reilly (2 - 4am; tape delayed); Bill O'Reilly crying (4-5am) (12/4/06)

Hey Dave, Hagerstown's "Eagle" is WWEG, not WEGX. WEGX is, yet another, "Eagle" station, this one out of Dillon, SC (serving Myrtle Beach). Rock on, Tybois Uphold (12/4/06)

Dave's response: Thanks. Will fix.....

Sayyyy, didn't Howard Stern disappear from the airwaves for a month just before his triumphant resurrection on Sirius? Ok, so I don't expect the boyz to show up on Sirius (tho if they did, I'd totally listen unless they went up against Howard live, in which case I'd favor him, even tho I can---and pretty much do---listen to him around the clock) but I wonder if mgt is hoping to build some suspense and ensure them a big audience when they move to mornings, hoping that the rats on crack will follow them anywhere, anytime, especially following cold turkey? Looking back, this certainly did have all the trappings of a contract dispute, but I guess I believed Doni when he said he was retiring. Now I feel so stupid; when he throws out stuff like that on the air it's always part of his negotiations. And since they can't pull the big #1 for the station, maybe they decided to play hardball and walk out. "Ok, so we're not number 1, but we're still the best thing on this station, and we'll SHOW YOU how they miss us and how sorry you'll be without us! Now, cough up the dough, and oh yeah, we're gonna' need mornings, just for our egos' sake." Hey, good luck with this strategy. A month of best of? Ooofah, no thanks! I'll check this site for updates and do something else with those two minutes between 3:00 and 3:02 each day. Ponderous, man, ponderous! (12/4/06)

RAUNCH POLL: I propose an informal poll for those people who listen to raunch radio and think that it's still relevant compared to other types of radio. Who is the best shock jock/raunch radio personality heard in D.C.? Never mind whether the show is on terrestrial or satellite radio. Who is the best? Howard Stern? Elliot? Opie & Anthony? Don & Mike? Someone else? (12/4/06)
